Netflix recently updated their culture memo, emphasizing the value of a Dream Team. They stated, "We aim only to have the highest performers at Netflix, modeling ourselves on a professional sports team, not a family." Many companies often refer to their employees as family, but the analogy of a sports team may resonate better in the business world. Viewing company culture through the lens of a sports team is common in sales organizations which I’ve seen over the last 10 years. Each team member plays a crucial role and must deliver results. Some may find their skills better suited elsewhere, while others rise to become MVPs or foundational members. In any job or team, there are highs and lows.
