📢 The “UN E-Government Survey 2024” report is now available. The results of the United Nations E-Government survey were released today. This report analyzes the digital landscape in all 193 Member States. 🌟 This is the first time that the report includes a section to analyze the role (the opportunities and challenges) of AI in digital government development. Some of the highlights of this report: 📌 “Europe leads in e-government development, followed by Asia, the Americas, Oceania and Africa.” 📌 “Despite the advances made, 1.73 billion people remain on the wrong side of the digital divide. The gaps in digital development are particularly wide in Africa and Oceania.” 📌 “In the Americas, digital leaders such as the United States of America, Uruguay, Chile, Argentina, Canada, and Brazil drive progress, supported by regional collaboration and international partnerships. All of the Caribbean small island developing States (SIDS) except Cuba and Haiti have shown commendable progress in digital development and are in the high EGDI group.” 📌 Colombia, Ecuador, and Mexico are the three countries in the Americas that “have made significant progress in their digital transformation journeys, focusing on enhancing their telecommunications infrastructure, improving online services, and investing in human capital development”, moving “from the high to the very high EGDI group for the first time in 2024.” You can access the report at the following link: https://lnkd.in/ebpsym4u

We are seeing #GovTech as increasingly being used to explore and experiment with innovative digital solutions in collaboration with the private sector - especially important in the case of #AI to cover for the capacity gaps governments face as they try to be more AI ready. We hope this report will support #governments in putting in place the right building blocks and enablers to build effective collaborations with private sectors actors.

Going #govtech can accelerate #digital #innovation in #government and facilitate the update of #artificialintelligence in the public sector. Our new OECD - OCDE report on Enabling Digital Innovation in Government proposes a policy framework to harness the potential of #govtech ecosystems for better government policies and public services for all. Full report: https://lnkd.in/edRyqAdZ GovTech is a key enabler of digital government. As governments increasingly focus on how best to experiment with and adopt innovative digital solutions with private sector actors, #govtech ecosystems offer a mechanism to do so in a way that is agile, innovative, and cost-effective. This is especially important in the case of #AI to cover for the capacity gaps governments face as they try to be more AI-ready. Not only does this help improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the public sector, but it can also foster the participation of start-ups and newer providers in the government market. Govtech reflects the need for collaborative governance in digital government and strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors to co-create innovative digital solutions. 2️⃣ 33 countries surveyed: ➡ 70% have already implemented digital strategies for collaboration with the govtech ecosystem. ➡ 55% are using #govtech to foster #innovation, experimentation, and collaboration. ➡ 42% are using govtech to facilitate the testing and adoption of technologies, such as #AI. However, there are varying levels of maturity in implementation. We hope this report will support #governments in putting in place the right building blocks and enablers to build effective collaborations with private sectors actors for maximum impact. The draft National Digital Development Strategy (NDDS) 2021 emphasizes the need for Sierra Leone to leverage ICT for economic growth, inclusivity, and a knowledge-based society. Despite efforts like the 2015 Open Data Readiness Assessment, the country still faces challenges in infrastructure, connectivity, and data management. In response, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), in collaboration with the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation and the Ministry of Public Administration and Public Affairs is hosting a two-day workshop on digital data governance. This workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of public sector employees and other stakeholders in understanding and implementing digital government and data governance. The objectives include building capacities based on the UN E-Government Development Index and exploring opportunities and gaps in digital governance through interactive dialogue.

Yesterday’s AccelerateGov conference in Ottawa was my first – and definitely won’t be my last! What an impressive event from the team at Global Government Forum . With over 1,700 registrants and standing-room-only sessions, the day was filled with up-to-the-minute discussions on data and digital transformation in government. I was honored to speak on the panel, Open, Accessible, Responsive Services: How Digital Transformation Can Help Build Trust in Government, alongside Charles Taillefer, Raj T. and international leaders Christine Bellamy, Miquel Estapé and Wolfgang Ebner. I had the opportunity to talk about how data and evidence are superpowers in our efforts to build trust in government. Leveraging data and evidence helps us understand how our policies, programs, and services are performing and how we can improve them to better meet citizens' needs. Demonstrating that we can deliver outcomes for Canadians is one of the best ways to build trust. At Blueprint , we’re working with governments across Canada to help them use data to create better policies, programs, and services. Reach out if you’d like to learn more – it’s powerful work. I’m looking forward to continuing these important conversations! #AccelerateGov2024 #DigitalTransformation #DataForGood #PublicPolicy #TrustInGovernment

The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs' "2024 E-Government Survey" report underscores the growing global trend toward digital government as a vital tool for #sustainabledevelopment. The report highlights the remarkable progress made in #digitaltransformation, with the E-Government Development Index (#EGDI) showing significant global improvement. The proportion of the global population lacking access to digital government services has decreased dramatically, from 45% in 2022 to 22.4% in 2024, reflecting increased investments in resilient infrastructure and digital technologies. However, disparities remain, particularly in Africa, Least Developed Countries (#LDCs), and Small Island Developing States (#SIDS), which continue to lag behind the global average, indicating the need for targeted support. The report also presents the Digital Government Model Framework, which offers nations a roadmap for planning, implementing, and assessing digital government projects, aiming to ensure sustainable digital development aligned with the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. This framework includes strategies to foster more effective public administration, enhance digital public infrastructure (DPI), and improve digital inclusion. The **Local Online Services Index (LOSI)** continues to provide valuable insights, showing steady progress but also highlighting gaps between national and local e-government services. The data points to persistent challenges in optimizing digital services at the municipal level, emphasizing the need for greater local-level digital governance. Notably, the addendum on #ArtificialIntelligence (#AI) explores how AI can be integrated into #egovernment to improve #servicedelivery and #policy-making, while also emphasizing the need to balance the opportunities AI offers with associated risks. The report calls for careful governance to maximize the benefits of AI while minimizing its potential negative impacts. In summary, The "2024 E-Government Survey" provides a clear picture of a world accelerating toward #digitaltransformation, with #governments at various stages of development. Despite substantial global progress, the survey calls attention to the uneven pace of digital government adoption, particularly in regions like #Africa and #SIDS, where the digital divide remains pronounced. To truly harness the potential of digital government, efforts must focus on bridging these gaps, enhancing local digital services, and responsibly integrating #emergingtechnologies like AI. The challenge ahead lies not just in technological adoption but in fostering inclusive, transparent, and sustainable digital governance that benefits all.

Public administrations worldwide have a significant opportunity to create substantial public impact through the implementation of government technology (#GovTech). A new report, valuing GovTech’s potential public impact at up to $9.8 trillion by 2034, sheds light on this vast potential. Where will this figure come from, and how can governments secure their share? “The global public impact of GovTech: A $9.8 trillion opportunity,” produced by the World Economic Forum, the Global Government Technology Centre Berlin, and Capgemini, delves into these critical questions. As Marc Reinhardt, our Public Sector Global Industry Leader, and the team engage in discussions at Davos, this report underscores that the magnitude of this opportunity is too significant for governments to overlook.
