Election and the Youth… Last week I asked my students about voting and most importantly how many voted. Now bear in mind majority of them are between 20 and 24 years old. So technically either first or second time voters. Out of the 21 present, 16 of them didn’t vote. One reason two of them gave was that the polling stations was in another region so they couldn’t go. Can you guess the reason majority gave for not voting? Hmmm… they said they didnt see any value in anything the two main political parties had to offer them. They added, "they are all the same". Sad isn’t it? For our youth who have many more voting years ahead of them, to take this stance? So I asked myself, were their conclusions not to vote based on what they had seen, heard, experienced or simply imagined? A proper research will come out this so watch this space.
