I had an interesting conversation with a coach who was watching my master class. He wondered if velocity-based training is also useful for the recreational athlete. The article below summarizes this well: "Velocity-based resistance training might be more effective than percentage-based training in maximal strength improvement, in which velocity-based resistance training is more suitable for athletes in season, while percentage-based training is more suitable for the general sports population." Are you a combat sports coach or gym owner looking to create a safer, more supportive environment for your clients? Trauma isn't always visible, but it affects how individuals engage in sports, especially in high-intensity settings like combat sports. That’s why Cor Defense offers a Trauma-Informed Care Certification course, designed specifically for combat-sports instructors and gyms. Here’s what one coach, Lance, had to say after completing our course: "Very in-depth information. I came away with knowledge for practical use of identifying potential behaviors of trauma and insight on how to assist and support. I feel like I am in a better position to assist and support the children I coach if they are victims of trauma." Through our course, we equip you with the tools to recognize trauma responses, create a safe training environment, and guide your clients toward healing—something combat sports can offer in ways traditional talk therapy can't. If you're ready to empower your gym and make a real difference for trauma survivors, reach out today to learn how our Trauma-Informed Care Certification can help. #TraumaInformedCare #CombatSports #CorDefense #TraumaHealing #karate #kravmaga #muythai #jiujitsu #martialarts #boxing #kickboxing

Ever wonder how sporting champions and top CEOs stay calm under pressure? England's World Cup-winning rugby coach, Sir Clive Woodward, offers his "TCUP", or "Thinking Correctly Under Pressure", technique. It involves thorough preparation, resilience building, pressure-simulated practice, swift decision-making and adaptability. The method, which Woodward says played a crucial role in England's 2003 World Cup win, extends far beyond sports. It provides a framework for harnessing pressure positively, turning potential stress into a performance catalyst. It challenges us to reframe our perspective on high-pressure situations, viewing them as opportunities rather than threats. What techniques have you found effective for maintaining composure and clarity under pressure?
Thinking Correctly Under Pressure or ‘TCUP’ is the strategy I use with individuals and teams to perform well in high-pressure situations. TCUP was crucial in England's win at the 2003 Rugby World Cup, resulting in effective decision-making under pressure. TCUP involves: Preparation: Ensuring players are well-prepared for all scenarios to build confidence. Resilience: Developing resilience to stop pressure turning into stress and staying focused. Practice Under Pressure: Simulating high-pressure situations in training. Decision Making: Making the right decisions quickly and effectively. Adaptability: Responding appropriately to unexpected changes during a game. TCUP principles apply well beyond sports, benefiting business, education, and personal development by enhancing performance in pressure situations. Pressure is a good thing. What is important is stopping pressure turning into stress! #TCUP #pressure #winningmindset

🎉 New publication alert 🎉 We found that 1) total distance per week, 2) maximal strength adaptation and 3) sprint technique adaptation (horizontal displacement of the hip) were the factors that influenced maximal speed adaptation across a pre-season in female Australian rules footballers. Speed is an important physical attribute to develop for this cohort as it discriminates between drafted and non-drafted athletes (Sullivan et al., 2021) and contributes to high speed distances during matchplay (Black et al., 2017). We also report the training structure, maximal speed, maximal strength, sprint technique and training demand data from the VFLW giving a insight into the training environment and physical attributes of players in this competition. A note, we've also observed that training demands change season to season as the competition evolves but strength, speed and technical attributes are more stable. Thanks to the superstar team who put this together Brendan Canham, Calvin Pane, Hannah Dower and Paul Larkin!
