On the subject of health insurance coverage for rural communities, the below research indicate that limited access to health insurance is an indication of high poverty rate. It's quite revealing to know that only 6% of over 200m people have access to health insurance and the bulk of the people without access in Nigeria are in the rural areas. This is why one of the key services on our platform is Enabling Access to Health Insurance for rural traders. We are glad to be working with partners to deliver these services and effect change in the quality of living in rural communities. Did you know that less than an estimated 22 million Nigerians have health insurance out of a population over 200 million? That's 11% of the entire population. Did you know that More Nigerians need to enroll for health insurance not just for the sake of making it mandatory by the FG (according to the new NHIA Act 2022) but because it is very important for performance, productivity and sustainability? Did you know that over 89% of the entire population without health insurance need more knowledge to understand how health insurance and HMO works.? In addition, everyone wants affordability, accessibility, convenience, swift response and integrity in words, service delivery and response. I also think many Nigerians wait until when they are completely knock down by ailment or sickness or disease. Some other Nigerians prefer self-medication or self-management of health to avoid cost of care at the hospital. At NEM Health, we leverage technology, people and process to deliver seamless and quality healthcare insurance for the various market segments. The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Act 2022 introduced a new framework aimed at improving access to high quality and cost-effective healthcare for all Nigerian citizens and residents. The new law achieved a significant milestone by including an insurance mandate for the first time, paving the way for collaboration between the Regulators - the NHIA - and the State Health Insurance Agencies to expedite the realization of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Nigeria. Healthnomics HMO Plc, a public health insurance entity, is dedicated to collaborating with key stakeholders such as healthcare consumers, providers, and similar organizations towards the overarching goal of achieving NHIA's comprehensive vision for UHC in Nigeria. #uhc #hmo #collaboration

Did you know that during the 2020 lockdown, nearly half of eye care practitioners we surveyed in Nigeria either lost their jobs, income, or a family member? Even more shocking, 55.3% of optometrists surveyed in this study had no health insurance at all! A group of eye care practitioners came together to investigate the impact of the pandemic on their profession, and the results were eye-opening. Despite widespread job insecurity and financial loss (41.3% felt insecure in their jobs), most still lacked health insurance. These findings were presented at the American Academy of Optometry, San Diego, sparking important discussions about how the pandemic pushed many to consider getting health coverage. Interestingly, men and private practice optometrists were the least likely to seek insurance after the pandemic. The study concluded that the economic impact of COVID-19 was worsened by the low uptake of health insurance, especially in Nigeria—an issue likely reflected across many Sub-Saharan African countries. What do you think? Has the situation changed since then? What should health insurance companies or governments do to increase coverage for healthcare professionals? Let’s discuss! #Optometry #COVIDImpact #HealthInsurance #NigeriaHealthcare #SocialPrescribing

Consider securing Hospital Cover under Private Health Insurance to ensure timely medical treatment. Delaying medical care can lead to unnecessary stress, pressure, and have a significant impact on one's life. By having appropriate insurance coverage, you can access necessary treatments when they are required, enhancing your overall well-being and avoiding potential complications.
Disappointing to read in the Hobart Mercury about the enormous mental and physical toll that very long and uncertain waits in the public hospital system are having. More than half the Australian population are with a private health insurance fund. Taking out health insurance not only assures fast and efficient access to high quality care with doctor of choice, it also helps free up public hospital beds for those most in need. The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) reports that 19.2 million Nigerians are now enrolled in its health insurance scheme, exceeding the 2024 target. NHIA director-general Kelechi Ohiri announced this milestone during a roundtable event in Abuja, indicating progress toward the 2027 goal of covering 95% of the population. The NHIA has implemented strategies like the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund and partnerships with state agencies to improve access for vulnerable groups. Despite funding and infrastructure issues, Ohiri called on state governments and private stakeholders to strengthen efforts in health coverage. Public health advocates have welcomed this achievement but stress the need for continued action to ensure quality healthcare for all Nigerians. WHY NIGERIA MUST STRENGTHEN ITS HEALTH INSURANCE OPERATIONS. The current cholera outbreak highlights the urgent need to strengthen our health insurance operations as a nation. Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is important in emergencies like this. This is because health insurance ensures access to timely and quality care, reducing mortality rates and economic burdens on individuals and families. Nigeria's current health insurance system faces challenges, including low coverage and inadequate funding. The government and stakeholders must prioritize health insurance reform, increase awareness, and improve access to affordable care. It is only when this is done that we be confident that Nigeria can build a resilient healthcare system, protect its citizens, and tackle future health crises effectively. What would happen if we had a universal healthcare system that truly worked for all Nigerians - would we be better prepared to tackle outbreaks like cholera and save countless lives? WHAT DO YOU THINK?

The pursuit of Universal Health Care is a priority for the current national administration. According to the 2021 FinAccess national survey and the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey (KDHS 2022), only one out of every four Kenyans has access to health insurance. Upto 71% of the Kenyan population cite lack of affordability as the reason for low health insurance uptake, followed by 20% who lack knowledge and awareness. These should be important considerations in designing health insurance solutions.
