**Debre Tabor University Launches STEM Supportive Program for High School Students** In a remarkable initiative to nurture young scientific minds, Debre Tabor University has welcomed high school students (Grades 9 to 12) into its newly launched STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) supportive program. This pioneering endeavor, supported by international partners, aims to equip students with critical skills and knowledge to excel in these transformative fields. The program was officially inaugurated by Dr. Menberu Teshome, the Vice President for Academic and Research, during a ceremonious launch event. Distinguished deans, directors, and representatives from various university departments attended, underscoring the institution's commitment to fostering academic excellence and innovation among the next generation. This initiative not only bridges the gap between secondary and higher education but also aligns with global efforts to cultivate talent in STEM disciplines, empowering students to contribute meaningfully to Ethiopia's and the world’s technological future.

The Science Education Tracker 2023 report only adds to concerns around STEM education in the UK. Over five years, we’ve seen “a negative shift in young people’s engagement, aspirations and participation in science at school.” Things aren’t only bad—they’re getting worse. But there are some silver linings: Most students see science as relevant to wider society. Their enthusiasm is high when they start secondary school, even if it dips later. They’re motivated by practical work, even if they don’t do enough of it. 77% of students are interested in some type of STEM career. We have all the evidence we need to understand the problems—and clues from young people themselves on how to solve them. Let’s use all that we’ve learned to reverse the decline of science education in the UK, so that we see a transformed picture five years from now. STEM to STEAM.. be ready for the future... The conversation around STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education has evolved into a broader and more inclusive framework known as STEAM, where 'A' represents the integration of the Arts. The shift from STEM to STEAM is not just a trend; it reflects a deeper understanding of what students need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. The inclusion of the Arts in the STEM curriculum nurtures creativity, innovation, and emotional intelligence, which are crucial for problem-solving and adapting to new challenges. 

High quality STEM instruction and learning should be a key priority for colleges and universities across the U.S. — but only a small number of students currently benefit from the use of evidence-based methods for teaching STEM subjects. "More than ever, nations around the world understand that science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills are key to driving economic growth and overall competitiveness. A compact between the United States, through the Millennium Challenge Corporation, and the country of Georgia's government sought to bring international higher education to Georgians — particularly in the area of STEM — to develop human capital, advance economic growth, and reduce poverty in the country. This effort included a project to ensure and enhance the delivery of high-quality STEM bachelor's degrees in Georgia in four ways: (1) partnering with a U.S. university to offer U.S. STEM degree programs, (2) improving STEM-related infrastructure and technology in partner Georgian universities, (3) assisting partner Georgian universities in reaching international STEM standards and acquiring international program accreditation, and (4) preparing world-class skilled STEM specialists from diverse backgrounds. San Diego State University (SDSU) partnered with three Georgian public universities — Tbilisi State University, Georgian Technical University, and Ilia State University — to fulfill these goals. To produce a durable STEM educational system that can continuously improve itself through cycles of reflection, innovation, implementation, and improvement, systemic change is needed. Over several decades, the federal government has allocated resources to strengthen education in science, technology, engineering, and math—leading to the development of a rich variety of educational innovations to support teaching and learning within the STEM disciplines. However, these efforts often fall short reaching their potential as they encounter numerous barriers to scalability and sustainability. Our new report examines factors at local, regional, and national levels that impact widespread implementation of Pre-K–12 STEM education innovations and recommends actions to scale up promising programs, practices, models, technologies.
