Do you find it hard to stay motivated when it feels like you're working hard but not seeing progress? Do you get discouraged when you hit a challenging setback that puts your goals in jeopardy? Welcome to the club - we all do. When you find yourself at that point, your "why" matters. Why are you working hard? Why did you set goals for yourself? Did you do it solely for yourself or did you do it to help others who need you? A "why" centered on helping others is much more powerful than a why centered on yourself. When you have a "why" centered on helping others, and that "why" gives you the strength to push on when you feel unmotivated or discouraged, you become a heroic version of yourself. I just released my second motivational track on Spotify and Apple Music, called "Be a Hero for the People in Your World". I was inspired to create this track by my experience fundraising to run my first marathon in 23 years. Originally, this goal was about proving to myself that I could turn back the clock and get better with age. But during my fundraising, I realized that this goal was about so much more than me. It was about how I could improve the lives of young people with disabilities through the amazing work of The Hoyt Foundation and EnrichedHQ. It was about how I could support and honor my teammates at CharityTeams and the Belmont Track Club. And it was about how I could set a positive example for everyone watching me that we are never too old to take on new challenges. I realized I was doing something important for my world. Something heroic. Because a “hero” isn’t just someone who fights the bad guys or slays the dragon. A hero is someone who rises above their challenges to become the best version of themselves and inspires others to do the same. We can all be a hero for the people in our worlds. Your world is waiting for another hero. So get out there and become the hero your world needs! https://lnkd.in/eTndrrF7

Belonging can be a hard thing to find, especially as a 20-something year old. You’re figuring things out, deciding who your “adult self” will be, you move around a lot, and your friends are doing the same. It can be an uncertain and lonely time. I moved to Michigan knowing very few people (even though Lexie knows everyone lol). I was in a new community, and getting to know it—feeling comfortable in it—was difficult and slow. But, then I began getting more involved with The Well. I began to get to know the community that The Well brings together. And suddenly, I found my fit in Detroit. With The Well, I knew I belonged. The Well really is for every young adult. As Lexie and I have evolved, we continually come back to “dip a bucket” at The Well, and The Well has evolved with us. It fostered friendships, kindled deep connections as we joined a Shabbat dinner group with other young Jewish couples, and now helps Lexie and I raise our child with a love of Judaism and Jewish community. The Well has been a gathering place, not just for programs and events, but for ideas and learning. The Well is one of the few young adult Jewish organizations that creates a safe space to examine our millennial Jewish identity. What does being Jewish mean to us? Are Jewish values unchanging, or do we define them for ourselves in each generation? Are we connected to Jews around the world, and if so, how? What should a modern Jew’s relationship be with Israel? With Germany? With America? I’ve had all of these meaningful discussions facilitated through The Well, and it’s helped to shape my core beliefs and values. The Well is where meaningful Jewishness happens for young adults in Detroit. I truly support and believe in their work and mission. I would be honored if you helped us Build The Well.
