We are proud to announce that we have participated in the ZEV-UP project supported by Horizon Europe, of which we are one of the stakeholders. This EU-funded project aims to develop a user-centric, modular, and fully zero-emission battery electric vehicle (BEV). The ZEV-UP vehicle is designed to feature a swappable battery system, providing convenience, flexibility, and lower operational costs. Launched as part of the 2Zero Partnership, ZEV-UP (Frugal zero-emission vehicles concepts for the urban passenger challenge) addresses the urgent need for sustainable mobility solutions and aligns with the European Fit-for-55 objective of reducing CO2 levels by 2030 and achieving climate neutrality by 2050. The ZEV-UP frugal vehicle concept will be implemented across three variants tailored to diverse user requirements. The primary variant is a compact two-seater tailored for urban use, while a longer wheelbase four-seater variant caters to family transportation needs. Additionally, this longer wheelbase variant can be converted into a two-seater commercial vehicle with a dedicated cargo area to transport goods. The ZEV-UP project, which will revolutionize urban transportation, will continue until June 2027. We are proud to take part in this exciting project and be part of the consortium. At ComfortDelGro Australia, we’re committed to reducing the energy and carbon footprint of our vehicles. Over the last 12 months, we’ve saved more than 160 tonnes of CO2 through no tailpipe emissions from 4 electric buses, equivalent to taking 35 cars off the road. We are continuing to increase our fleet of electric buses for a better customer experience and a positive impact on the environment. Our sustainability journey began with our hybrid buses, and we are now saving more than 770 tonnes of CO2 a year through no tailpipe emissions from these vehicles. That’s equivalent to taking 168 cars off the road. Through our combined efforts in hybrid and electric bus technology we are taking steps towards a cleaner, more environmentally friendly future with every journey we take. #sustainabletransport #electricbuses

How do you decarbonise your business when one of the prime sources of emissions is a commercial fleet of vans and other commercial vehicles? Is electrification the answer? Is it possible to plan a Net Zero pathway when so much is still being developed with these types of vehicle? I think so. Increasingly I see businesses juggling with this challenge. Electric vehicle options still seem so new and expensive whilst charging options are still far from mature for these types of transport. I still come across companies thinking hydrogen will be the answer, but it won't. HVO is raised as a possibility, but how sustainable is HVO really and one thing is for sure, burning any kind of fuel, even vegetable-oil or crop-based synthetic fuels, still creates carbon emissions. So in the face of this many organisations facing this challenge find themselves frozen into inaction and struggle to develop carbon reduction plans that they may need to share with their clients as part of tender submissions. But whilst it may feel that immediate electrification is the only answer, one that is then currently unaffordable or impractical for many, the reality is that whilst electrification is indeed likely to be the best solution over time, it is perfectly reasonable to plan that over several years and still achieve the same goals that align with climate science. Things are changing at pace. When I looked at electric van options for a client 3 years ago the number of vehicles to choose from was relatively limited. Now there is a plethora to pick from and the same is beginning to happen with HGV's. Consequently, the vehicles that have been around 2 or 3 years are now becoming available on the second-hand market at some great prices. Vans that don't return to base overnight are often parked outside driver's flats or homes with no off-street parking so charging is seen as an issue, but the range of solutions to that issue are increasing all the time and some are really creative. And, just like cars, once drivers have tried EV's and appreciate the more relaxed driving environment, they rarely want switch back. But before you even get there there is a myriad of things that businesses can do to reduce their fuel consumption and hence their footprint, thereby launching their decarbonisation trajectory. A client I recently prepared a report for on their fleet decarbonisation sent me a lovely email this week: "That is a great report thank you. It certainly gives us some more avenues for thought, discussion and action. We can certainly smarten up our reporting by utilising the correct figures for a start." Do you know a business that is struggling to figure out their road to Net Zero because of their fleet? PS. with thanks to Alexander Lewis-Jones for a great conversation recently that helped with that report. #NetZero #Decarbonisation #FleetDecarbonisation
