New IAEA Report on Climate Change and Nuclear Power Focuses on Financing: The 2024 edition of the IAEA’s Climate Change and Nuclear Power report has been released, highlighting the need for a significant increase in investment to achieve goals for expanding nuclear power.

IAEA launched a collaboration with the G20 to highlight the key role that nuclear energy can play in achieving energy security and climate-change goals. The aim of this first-of-its-kind partnership with G20, the world’s largest economic group, is to build momentum for nuclear power. It is the first time IAEA has presented to G20 the issues relating to nuclear power.

The UK needs to build new nuclear “at pace” if it wants to remain competitive against similar countries pursuing nuclear power programmes, according to a report from the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBIGC).

This is a significant development in #Singapore's journey towards their goal of net zero with #climatechange: moving towards peaceful nuclear use. The pursuit of nuclear technologies could offer a reliable and sustainable energy source to meet rising demands and support climate goals by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and meeting the growing energy needs in Singapore. Advanced nuclear technologies have the potential to enhance energy security and diversify the energy mix. While there will be fear of the use of nuclear technologies (if you follow the evolution of the technology in the last decade), the fourth generation of nuclear plants such as TerraPower is designed to be safe and to deal with nuclear meltdowns. The first of these reactors is now in construction in the US. However, addressing public concerns about safety, waste management, and regulatory frameworks, along with substantial investments in infrastructure and expertise, are crucial steps.
