”Why don’t you do it like everyone else?” This was the question posed to Petteri Lahtela, Nucu’s Chair of the Board, on the Founder Stage at Slush. As the second day of Slush begins, the answer is clear – especially at the Nucu booth. Sometimes, you have to take a leap and create something that’s never been built before. Why? Because it has the potential to help millions of people. Because it can make the world a better place. Slush is always a time to pause and reflect on the journey so far. This year, the Nucu team has grown, our user base has expanded across Finland and beyond, and children – the heart of what we do – continue to inspire us with their limitless growth and potential. Visit us at booth i10. Thank you for growing with us!

Excited to be speaking with Kevin Strunk at the D&AD awards in London on May 22nd. We'll be talking about triangles, Ted Lasso and getting teams to see the light at the end of potentially tricky idea tunnels. As we're both big fans of humour, we promise to make it as enjoyable and fun as we can - which is how we live our lives each and every day. Hope to see you there if you're attending the festival! It was wonderful to be part of the UKERC 20 year celebration - as one of the founding PIs working from Phase 1. UKERC has achieved much and is a significant source of valued and trusted information on energy systems. In my own domain, we have made significant progress in bringing a consideration of the environment into energy system thinking - moving on from original concepts of 'environmental impact assessments' to quantifying natural capital and ecosystem services, developing sophisticated spatial tools to identify sites that deliver on energy and nature - this work has never been more important as the UK aims to deliver ambitious Net Zero targets - we need to value the environment, understand constraints on landscape and how we can deliver sustainable food, energy and nature for the UK. UKERC has a continuing role to play in convening the transdisciplinary research agenda over the coming years.
We were thrilled to celebrate ‘UKERC at 20’ yesterday, marking four phases of UKERC which span 2004-2024. Reaching this milestone is a significant achievement and highlights the key role that UKERC has played over the last two decades, providing trusted evidence-based research. Over successive phases we have achieved high levels of impact, delivering interdisciplinary, whole systems energy research to inform and underpin decision making by policy, industry and civil society. We had a fantastic cast of speakers and attendees, from those previously associated with UKERC, to current academics and supporters, and will be sharing videos of the sessions. A special thanks goes to all our speakers: Nicky Beaumont, Joan MacNaughton CB, Peter Taylor University of Leeds, Jim Watson, Paul Ekins, Robert Gross, Caroline Kuzemko, Jason Chilvers University of East Anglia, Phil Heptonstall, Catherine Jones, Neil Strachan, Joanne Wade, Meysam Qadrdan, Imogen Rattle, Ahmed Gailani, William Blyth, Jane Dennett-Thorpe FEI, David Joffe, Dr Jessica Britton, Keith Bell, Dhara Vyas, Sara Walker and Damitha Adikaari

As I got to know my new position at TUM Technical University of Munich, I discovered that many people "behind the scenes" make a big impact on studies and research support. This includes the multi-talented and energizing people organizing "Open Day Campus Garching" and the "Open House with the Mouse". Activities that bring people in, making education, science, and scientific discovery more accessible to all ages and interests. From guided tours to demonstrations to lectures and informal talks, the doors really are open. I'm excited to be a very small part of it, especially to see colleagues shine. What is your university or institute doing to build bridges with your communities? How would you recommend experts jump out of their usual comfort zones to talk to a dramatically different audience?
Join us for the Germany-wide day of action "Open House with the Mouse" at our Garching campus on October 3 for a varied program with hands-on-activities, experiments, and more for mouse fans of all ages. Register now: t1p.de/zvsmn 🐭 #TürenAuf #Maustag #OpenHouse 📷A.Heddergott

Reflecting today on the inspiring 'More Than a Village' conference yesterday and the learning shared from ten years of Blackpool Better Start, Sure Start and much more besides. Thanks so much to Clare Law and to everyone who contributed. One key message for me was the importance of trust and allowing for local difference within accountability and outcomes frameworks and not seeking a simple or over-simplified view of what success and impact could and should look like - striking a balance of consistency where it makes sense with local flexibility. I found Sally Hogg's points about seeking a realistic view of what works and what might be impactful really helpful - bringing the evidence that's available (with healthy questioning of its relevance, especially for minoritised and disadvantaged communities as we discussed last week at the Nesta and Foundations – What Works Centre for Children & Families event on parenting interventions), in particular the common elements of evidence-based practice and change at a systems level, together with the voices and testimonies of local individuals and communities to shape and create local solutions. Really looking forward to contributing to the next stage of the journey, as a member of the Expert Advisory Board and linking to the Common Outcomes for Children and Young People Collaborative.
🧡 Proud doesn’t come close! What an incredible day at our ‘More Than a Village’ conference with 945 early years friends! ⭐️ Huge thank you to Sir Peter Wanless Chris Cuthbert Dr Cheryll Adams CBE Hilary Kennedy CPsychol (HPC) AFBPsS Jean Gross Beckie Lang Paul Ramchandani Sally Hogg Leon Feinstein and Naomi Eisenstadt CB. What an absolute dream team! 👶🏼 It was such a privilege to be able to share, with so many, the difference our programme has made locally, telling the story of the impact on our babies, young children and parents in Blackpool. 🚀 And what a great time to share with others the scale of our ambition, using our local learning to scale and grow and support so many more. You can also read the paper on Systems Building by Chris Cuthbert and I by clicking here https://lnkd.in/eR_ufNg5 💫 Exciting times ahead for Better Start 💫
