Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project’s Post

Have you heard? 🎉 Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior, Deb Haaland announced on Tuesday, December 17 the designations of 19 new #NationalHistoricalLandmarks. We’re spotlighting 3 standout sites that showcase America’s diverse heritage: Summit Camp 📌 California The largest Chinese railroad worker camp from the Transcontinental Railroad era (1865-1869), highlighting the crucial contributions of Chinese immigrants in building America. Charleston Cigar Factory 📌 South Carolina Site of a pivotal 1945-1946 strike led by African American women workers, showcasing the intersection of labor rights and civil rights activism. Loudoun County Courthouse 📌 Virginia Location of the pivotal 1933-1934  Crawford trial that transformed civil rights law. The case led to Charles Hamilton Houston becoming the NAACP's first special counsel, launching their strategic legal campaign to end segregation. These designations help tell a more complete story of American history, and reflect Secretary Haaland’s commitment to preserving sites of struggle, triumph, and cultural significance for future generations.
