It stands to reason that there's major growth in prospect for online grocery (and hybrid variants) - the burning question, following burnout of the 15-minute model, is how to get more (deliveries to doorstep) from less (congestion and carbon emissions). Essentially the sector needs non-polluting delivery steeds (ie pedalecs and electric 2/3-wheelers) which are small and nimble (don't get stuck in traffic) but which can carry more than a rider with bag-on-back. This is the way to deliver more groceries (and value) per trip, with less noise, less miles, less riders; more sustainable and more DPH (drops per hour) #AAcargo #morefromless #QuieterFasterGreenerCheaper and #smarter

🚀 DoorDash aims to expand Grocery delivery this year: "The two largest areas of investment are expansion and penetration outside of the U.S., as well as the same outside of restaurants," DoorDash CEO Tony Xu Tony Xu said in an interview with the Financial Times. DoorDash is looking to invest in not only expending overseas but also in its non-restaurant businesses mainly grocery delivery, which has overtaken the growth of its core restaurant delivery business. “Grocery is the largest retail category and represents a $1.1 trillion industry in the United States alone,” said Instacart CEO Fidji Simo. “But only 12 percent of grocery sales are made online today. As even more people shop online, online penetration could double or more over time.” DoorDash’s 3 year old grocery delivery doubled in gross order value in the third quarter last year. Small orders have taken up an increasing share of overall online grocery purchases since the pandemic, according to data compiled by research firm YipitData , which analyzes customer email receipts. DoorDash reports fourth-quarter results next week. @pressherald @emarketerforcast #ecommerce #grocerydelivery #fooddelivery #doordash #europe

With grocery costs on the rise, does @oddbunchcanada offer cost savings as well as convenience? I am also happy to support a business that isn't one of the huge grocery store conglomerates. You know I made a spreadsheet for this! 🤑 The results are in! I compared the cost of my Odd Bunch box to Wal-Mart, No Frills and Zehrs, and it won on price against all three! Here are the numbers. No Frills - $34.98 Zehrs - $39.51 Wal-Mart - $35.78 Odd Bunch - $19.99 (this included a $4 discount, full cost with delivery would have been $23.99) When I compare the grocery store prices to what the Odd Bunch would cost without a discount, here is how much MORE the same items would cost: No Frills - $10.99 Zehrs - $15.52 Wal-Mart - $11.79 If you haven't checked them out yet, go have a look to see if they deliver to your area!

Are Amazon's #physicalstore growth and #retailmedia growth is throttled by Whole Foods Market legacy (i.e., where's the Diet Coke?) A more consistent experience across Amazon's three physical #grocery store formats might be coming soon... "Beginning next year, a Whole Foods Market in Pennsylvania will utilize an automated #microfulfillmentcenter (MFC) to top up #shopping trips with conventional #groceries as well as nonfood items found on Amazon. Shoppers can add these items — which don’t typically appear in Whole Foods stores — to #online orders with just a few taps." https://lnkd.in/gj45pxBq

It seems the traditional season of the "year-in-review" has just take off at Grocery Dive for #walmart as a start. #Walmart, like many supermarkets worldwide, have experienced a surge in grocery sales as people relied more on supermarkets instead of restaurants during the pandemic and the challenge for Walmart has been to capitalize on this momentum and retain the market share gains by keeping customers engaged and away from restaurants as normalcy returned. To make it happen, Walmart has introduced several new strategies to keep its customers shopping for groceries and dining at home, which include expanding its in-store dining options by partnering with fast-casual restaurants, providing convenient and appealing "Affordable Restaurant-Quality meals". Additionally, Walmart has revamped its grocery offerings, launching a new private brand to cater to both low- and high-income shoppers. On the #sustainability's side Walmart as invested in crop monitoring tech to ensure fresher produce in store and reduce food waste, Is all of these propositions will continue to made Walmart a Grocery Destination with its "Affordable Restaurant-Quality Meals" offer to continue to compete with restaurants ? Furthermore, to solidify its grocery dominance, Walmart opened new #Neighborhood #Market format with enhanced grocery offerings tailored to customer demand for high-quality and fresh more often locally harvest food. Opening more convenience stores format supports the company’s e-commerce growth for its #clickandcollect" offer thus creating an ecosystem where in-store and online experiences converge, which is part of Walmart’s five-year growth plan including building or converting 150 new locations and remodeling 650 stores by 2029.

E-Food & Quick Commerce: Ocado Group CEO: ULTRA-FAST DELIVERY WON’T ‘EVER BE AS LARGE AS BIG BASKET MARKET Die Grocery Gazette hat dazu ein pasr schöne Zitate aufgegriffen: 👉🏼There is demand for ultra-fast grocery services 👉🏼 Tim Steiner doesn‘t think that the “immediacy premium market will ever be as large as the big basket market”. 👉🏼 Quick Commerce will not be the main channel in UK grocery because of the price and premium that comes with rapid delivery. Und am Schluss noch ein kleiner Seitenhieb auf die Getir Gorillas 🦍 Bubble: “I remember Gorillas saying that they were going to be bigger than Ocado Retail by the first half of 2022 and I don’t think they got much beyond 2% of Ocado Retail’s size by the time it left the market. There were ludicrous statements being made,” Steiner stated (16 July 2024). #efood #egrocery #quickcommerce #marketsize #Delivery #platform
