While we are at this internet/starlink thing, let's look at some numbers. MTC and Telecom Namibia have substantial network coverage throughout Namibia. They are national mobile broadband operators, with MTC having a larger presence. However, population coverage for 4G in Namibia is very low, at 85%, compared to South Africa, where 4G levels exceed 93%. Six of the 14 regions have 4G population coverage of less than 80%, as shown in the graph below. Notably, less than 50% of the Kunene Region's population has access to 4G. #4g #spacex #starlink #network #internet #elonmusk #internet

Starlink Cleared For Launch In Botswana Following Presidential Meeting. Botswana has granted a license to SpaceX's Starlink, allowing the satellite internet service to operate in the country. This decision comes three months after the Botswana Communications and Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) initially rejected Starlink’s application due to missing information, which led to a ban on Starlink products. The turnaround followed a meeting between the SpaceX team and President Mokgweetsi Masisi at the Africa-US Business Forum in Dallas, Texas. President Masisi set a two-week deadline for the regulator to expedite the licensing process, emphasizing the importance of bridging the connectivity gap in Botswana, especially in remote areas where conventional broadband is unavailable. With an internet penetration rate of 87%, Botswana still faces some of the highest data prices in Africa. The introduction of Starlink is expected to provide more affordable and reliable internet access, particularly benefiting farmers and residents in remote regions. #StarlinkBotswana #SpaceXConnectivity #BridgingDigitalDivide #AffordableInternetAccess #SatelliteInternetBotswana

[SpaceX’s Starlink Internet Service Available in Madagascar] Starlink, the satellite telecommunications company, has officially announced on its X page (formerly Twitter) that its high-speed, low-latency internet service is now commercially available in Madagascar. The journey towards this milestone began in April 2024 when Tahina Razafindramalo, Madagascar’s Minister of Digital Development, Posts, and Telecommunications, revealed that Starlink had secured the necessary approvals from the Malagasy government. The company was in the final stages of setting up its infrastructure and completing all regulatory requirements to obtain a satellite operator license. The commercial launch was strategically scheduled for the third quarter of 2024, aligning with Starlink’s goal to expand its global internet coverage. This development is expected to enhance internet accessibility and connectivity in Madagascar significantly. Starlink has successfully obtained regulatory approval to offer its services in 13 African countries. This significant milestone paves the way for the company to expand its high-speed, low-latency internet offerings across the continent, aiming to enhance connectivity in underserved regions.
