Sometimes, challenging circumstances bring out the best in us. They force us to look beyond our differences and find a common cause, even when it seems improbable. In 1943, during the height of World War II, the state of Pennsylvania faced such a challenge. Player shortages left both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles unable to field full teams. The solution? A rare and remarkable merger — the creation of the Steagles. Two franchises that represented opposite ends of the state, usually rivals, came together for the good of the game, overcoming divides and proving that unity in difficult times can lead to positive outcomes. While the Steagles only existed for one season, their legacy endures. They remind us that, even when passions run high and our allegiances seem set in stone, we can stand together when it truly matters. That spirit of unity is what makes this rivalry between Western PA and Eastern PA so special. Maybe if PA can come together, the rest of the country can? Maybe. But today… well, today’s a challenging day in the Leader household. I’m from Western PA, a proud member of the Steelers Nation, while my wife hails from Eastern PA, where the Eagles soar. Her family is donning green, my tribe is waving the Terrible Towels, and my 5 1/2-year-old son Cullin is caught in the middle of what he sees as a catastrophe. He’s left wondering, “How can these two teams play each other? Who do I root for?” The good news is, he’s made his choice — he’s backing the Steelers. In the end, whether it’s black and gold or midnight green, we’re all Pennsylvanians. A state that once combined forces for the greater good can handle a little friendly rivalry. May the best PA team win. Go Steelers!!!

PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES If you missed it, Patrick Mahomes tossed a behind the back pass to Travis Kelce in a preseason game this week versus the Detroit Lions. While entertaining, it also wasn't totally surprising because we've watched Mahomes do this a couple of times in practice at this point. When asked about it, he's stated he'd love to do it in a real game, but only if it makes sense versus the defense they are playing. He's also said he wants to continue to push the limits of what we expect a QB can do. The reason it's so fun to watch Patrick Mahomes is not just because he's been so successful but he's willing to try new things.
