It has been about one month since my last post, which I am told is far too long to wait between posts if you want to increase your visibility on LinkedIn, but here we are. This has been a very busy month, all things considered, but to answer the most obvious question: no, I have not found a new position yet and am still working to find my next career opportunity. I have been very focused on developing better application materials, learning about potential roles, and expanding my network as I begin submitting applications. As I consider my network, let me pause here to acknowledge how grateful I am to everyone who has taken the time to contact me with advice, questions, referrals, a sincere desire to help me in some way, or just a willingness to listen. During the last month, I have met so many people who have experienced the same career upheaval and just want to help. I have also reconnected with so many old friends and colleagues who are rooting for me and would probably give me a job right now if they could. It has been a truly humbling experience to learn that so many people can still care so much for you, despite the time and distance between us. Thank you to everyone, old friends and new, for helping me to remain positive and optimistic about the future, as well as for reminding me about the power of a strong network. Speaking of networking and feeling positive about the future, the purpose of this post is to share my excitement about the upcoming Entomological Society of America (ESA) Annual Meeting (#EntSoc24) in Phoenix, AZ! I was uncertain if I would be able to attend this year, but it looks like I will be there after all! The ESA community is just fantastic and I am looking forward to seeing everyone there. Strategic steps to tech career success by Lawrence Lockhart

⚡ It feels like such an honor to celebrate two years at Brightline! I'm lucky to work with some of the (no pun intended) brightest, kindest folks in the industry tackling one of our nation's biggest issues, expanding access to mental healthcare services for kids, teens and their families. I often get asked what my background is when I get to share that 'I work in Tech for a cool mental healthcare start-up.' And I love asking the same question to other folks instead of 'What do you do?' but rather, 'How did you get into your <role/industry/etc>?' It makes for a better story and connection, trust me. 😉 I don't have a particular niche background that led me here. Over a decade ago when I was a recent college grad, I suited up with a stack of resumes in hand and went to a career fair on MLK day. I left, called my dad in tears and exclaimed, "Man, what a waste of my time!" A few days later, I got a call from a recruiter at HealthPartners and I officially started my career in healthcare in their call center. Fast forward to just over two years ago, I got a LinkedIn message from recruiter Nicholle R.. (It is possible, folks!) I had recently told all my colleagues I wasn't looking for a new role and was super happy with where I was. But after reading the message and the job description... It looked like it was magically written *just* for me. It hit every mark on my 'dream job' list that I had jotted down just 6 months before. After a handful of exciting interviews and an anxious waiting period, I got the offer. I couldn't be more grateful for the colleagues, mentors, referrals, and pure surprises that have gotten me from that first call center job to my current role. So LinkedIn friends, I'm curious. How did you get into your current role or industry? Was your training or education a natural fit or was it a bunch of happy accidents and a few connections that led you to where you are today?
