The keynote lectures are delivered by world-leading experts, including Prof. Agustin Valera-Medina from Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd, Prof. Kaoru Maruta from Tohoku University, and Prof. Thibault Guiberti from KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology). Hygenco’s Harish Jayaram and Gaurav Agnihotri were invited to visit the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Mumbai. They met Mr. Thierry van Helden, Deputy Consul General; Ms. Prajkta MALVE, Deputy Trade & Investment Commissioner, NBSOs India and Mr. Arun Thekkedath, Senior Policy Advisor, Netherlands Innovation Network. The topics of discussion were Hygenco’s strides in the Global Green Hydrogen space, upcoming projects, and the World Hydrogen Summit, 2024. Further , discussions also happened on Indo-Dutch "Green Hydrogen Corridor" as well as working closely with MNRE and NITI Aayog. The Netherlands Embassy in India has invited Hygenco to be a part of an Indian delegation comprising of high-level policymakers and businesses to participate in the upcoming World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition, Netherlands from May 13-17. Innovate UK's Mike Biddle chaired a panel discussion which launched the Hydrogen Innovation Initiative (HII) latest report, ‘the UK Hydrogen Innovation Opportunity’. The report published by HII on the 24th of April combines key insights from over 250 businesses and 12 sector bodies, including public funding data analysis conducted by Innovate UK Business Connect. This comes at a key time in hydrogen innovation as the global hydrogen technology market has been predicted to reach £1trn annually by 2050. Official Opening of the National University of Singapore "Centre for Hydrogen Innovations"! It was a true privilege to be invited to and attend today’s Official Opening of the National University of Singapore Centre for Hydrogen Innovations. The event, masterfully organized by Jackson Leow and his team, featured an outstanding Distinguished Speaker Series that left a lasting impression on all attendees. The CHI Vision is clear: To position Singapore at the forefront of global #hydrogeninnovations. Its mission is equally ambitious and inspiring: 1. To promote cutting-edge R&D advancements in #hydrogen production, storage, and utilization. 2. To foster collaborations with industries, academia, and agencies to drive #hydrogen-based solutions. 3. To nurture a talent pool equipped to shape and lead the #hydrogen revolution. Dr. Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, passionately discussed Singapore’s commitment to #decarbonization and achieving #netzero targets. He emphasized the urgent need for clean, #zerocarbon fuels and energy sources such as #greenhydrogen, #greenammonia, and #greenmethanol. This vision was echoed by other distinguished speakers, sponsors, and founding partners of CHI, including Mr. Russell Tham, Head of Emerging Technologies at Temasek, Dr. David T. I deeply appreciate the opportunity to represent and pitch both Hydrogen Valley Estonia and AS Metrosert Applied Research Center at the European Hydrogen Valleys Investment Forum in beautiful Riga! The Latvian Hydrogen Association with all its partners has really made something big happen - panel discussions have been realistic, to the point, and informative. I hope this event will rotate between all the Baltic states and tie us together more and more. Key points from my pitch: Hydrogen Valley Estonia is the world's first nationwide hydrogen valley. Our country boasts over 50 years of world-class fundamental science in electrochemistry, leading to several deep-tech innovations with proprietary IP. Estonia ranks #1 in per capita investments supporting IPCEI (Important Projects of Common European Interest) projects. All of them are related to hydrogen tech. At Metrosert Applied Research Center, we're developing semi-industrial testing capabilities for electrolyzers and fuel cells. Why Estonia? • We offer a compact, efficient testbed for new technology implementation. • Less regulation and bureaucracy means faster execution. • We understand the importance of cross-border partnerships and collaboration between state, industry, academia, and startups. Looking forward to exploring large-scale projects in upstream and downstream sectors, offering semi-industrial scale testing capabilities, and engaging in joint R&D initiatives. This optimistic outlook is supported by insights from numerous businesses and sector bodies, suggesting a robust framework for innovation and development in hydrogen technologies. Contrastingly, the view from the US, as detailed by the National Petroleum Council (NPC), presents a more cautious and sobering perspective. The NPC report, spurred by a request from U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Jennifer Granholm, indicates that under current policies, the US is unlikely to meet its net-zero emissions goals with the projected growth of the hydrogen industry. This report highlights the need for significant changes in federal support and policy adjustments to expedite the growth of the hydrogen industry, particularly concerning the production capacities and infrastructure required to support both 'green' and 'blue' hydrogen at the scale needed for substantial emission reductions. These contrasting perspectives underline a global divergence in confidence and strategy towards hydrogen’s role in the future energy landscape. The UK’s aggressive push may serve as a bellwether for other nations, while the US’s cautious approach highlights the challenges and the scale of investment needed to realise hydrogen’s potential fully.
