Do you need to recruit for a role but you're holding off until January, once you get past the craziness of Christmas? At face value, this seems like a logical thing to do. However, what you're not accounting for is the couple of weeks (or more) spent recruiting, followed by the notice period of the successful candidate (often 4 weeks or more, depending on the role).
