Sugar and IBS - Can the sugar we consume affect our digestive symptoms? Studies have found that high consumption of sugar could be affecting the composition of the gut microbiome (the balance of bacteria in the gut). Recent studies have shown that high intake of sugars increase bacteria in the gut that cause inflammation, while simultaneously decreasing the abundance of bacteria which are beneficial, reduce toxins and support gut barrier function. This means that the health of the gut is compromised when too much sugar is ingested. There is more inflammation and the immunity within the gut is compromised. So yes, eating too much sugar does affect our digestive systems. We really need a balance of gut bacteria, and it is very important to look after the good guys in order to keep our guts healthy. Steer Clear for a Happier Gut! 🚫🥗 Discover the 5 Foods Sabotaging Your Gut Health: 1.
