Fortescue Zero is set to launch operations at its Advanced Manufacturing Centre in Michigan, producing cutting-edge marine battery packs using its scalable battery module (SBM) technology. According to Fortescue’s Senior Battery Integration Engineer, Samuel Dew, the SBM allows for a flexible, "Lego brick" approach to battery design, enabling customized solutions across various sectors, from automotive to marine. The first marine battery pack, designed for Evoa, will power vessels with up to 1,000 horsepower, featuring rapid recharging in under 30 minutes! ⚡ Production is slated to begin in Q4 2025, with plans for the Detroit facility to become a hub for electric vehicle batteries, fast chargers, and electrolysers by 2030. This innovation represents a significant step towards a decarbonized future. 🌱 Fortescue launches US manufacturing plant with marine battery: https://lnkd.in/eGbWYYmN #RenewableEnergy #BatteryTechnology #Sustainability #Innovation #MarineEnergy

IGO Ltd, Perenti and ABB worked together to understand the technical feasibility, cost and operational implications for implementing a BEV fleet in an existing underground mine. Mines can become even more energy efficient with vastly reduced levels of CO₂ emissions, while at the same time staying competitive and ensuring high productivity, in part due to the higher tramming speeds of electric loaders and trucks compared to their diesel equivalents. We have been investing in electric mining transport through our eMine™ portfolio for several years now and have seen the technology go from strength to strength. We expect the outcome of this study to provide more momentum for electrification so our industry can continue to make real progress in lowering its emissions, while improving the health and safety of our people. Critics of renewable energy jump at the chance to say it's impossible to electrify and solarize heavy industrial equipment. Since most of my contact is with Americans, I can understand why they think that way. Caterpillar, for example, has been losing the electrification/ automation race for decades. Meanwhile, across the puddle, Europeans are on a different trajectory. To them, saying renewables can't compete is like bemoaning the fact that cell phones don't have fax paper. Fossil fuels are losing ground fast over there. America, wake up! The solarevolution is here now: "... Once we decarbonize our entire fleet, around 95 million liters of diesel will be removed from our operations every year, or more than a quarter of a million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.” https://lnkd.in/gzXBDuB3 There's more. Though not mentioned in the article, the automation in this equipment is unparalleled.

Caterpillar launches ‘Pathways To Sustainability’ – an energy transition program Caterpillar Inc. Inc has announced the formation of a new educational program designed to support mining, quarry and aggregate industry customers on their #energytransition journeys. The #PathwaystoSustainability program is a four-year, multi-pronged experience that provides participants with holistic learning opportunities, energy transition project advisement and additional benefits related to sustainable product access. The program was discussed on Day 1 of #TheElectricMine 2024 conference in Perth by Sean McGinnis, #Caterpillar VP of Technology and Global Sales Support in his talk ‘The road to reducing emissions.’ The emphasis of the program is on understanding each participating company’s sustainability objectives and providing participants with information and tools that will help them understand where they are on their own unique journeys and where energy transition strategies may need to be customised to support individual actions. The program includes in-person and virtual training opportunities centred on six strategic areas impacted by the energy transition – strategy, people, product, process, technology and infrastructure. In alignment with Caterpillar’s 2030 #SustainabilityGoals, the program will explore opportunities to make an impact toward customers’ site emissions reduction objectives through multiple avenues, including the use of technology, reducing machine lifecycle waste, fleet-bridging strategies and solutions that can be applied today to improve efficiency. The Pathways to Sustainability program is the next phase of Caterpillar’s sustainability offerings, building off of the company’s Early Learner program which was established in 2021. The Early Learner program includes #electrification agreements with a select group of customers across the globe who are working with Caterpillar to test and validate the company’s new #batteryelectric machines, and #charging and infrastructure solutions. Caterpillar Senior Vice President Marc Cameron explains: “To make a step-change, it will take the industry coming together. That is what our Early Learner program and now the Pathways to Sustainability program are all about – learning and working together toward a brighter future. We are proud to support our customers every step of the way as they design their own unique paths and goals, now and through the energy transition.” #electricmine24 #routetonetzero #futureofmining #mineofthefuture
