The plans for a new Aboriginal healthcare centre for Bourke Aboriginal Community Health Services have been lodged for development approval with Bourke Shire Council. This is a significant milestone for the community who have worked hard over many years to make this project a reality.   Our engagement with the local community helped us develop the design to incorporate metal scales of browns, greens and yellows  inspired by the yellowbelly fish – a native and culturally significant species found in the nearby Darling River.   The community needed 10 flexible consultation rooms for permanent and visiting health practitioners and a communal multi-purpose space, all of which are designed to connect with the land and sky outside to create a healthy and culturally comfortable environment for visitors and staff.   Outside, the courtyard garden is a space for gathering and exploring. Our collaborators Taylor Brammer Landscape Architects have created productive community gardens with culturally significant native edible and medicinal plants and places for people to come together.

I've been in this industry long enough to remember when mental health wasn't talked about, largely because we didn’t understand it. Now, we know it’s key to overall well-being, yet the *infrastructure supporting it* is often overlooked. That’s why we're proud at TOCCI to be part of the Eleanor Slater Hospital renovation. This project goes beyond bricks and mortar—we're creating spaces that prioritize healing, safety, and dignity for both patients and staff. In this renovation, we’re focused on more than just physical upgrades; we’re creating an environment that fosters recovery, growth, and resilience. Modernizing this facility isn’t just about improved technology or better workflow—it’s about providing a sanctuary where mental health can be supported holistically, from thoughtful design to patient-centered care. We're excited to partner with the state of Rhode Island and @NEMD Architects to bring innovative design and construction methods to this vital project, ensuring that Eleanor Slater Hospital becomes a place where patients receive not only top-tier care but also feel supported in their mental health journey. Buffalo, New York takes the lead, followed by Cincinnati, Ohio; Columbus, Ohio; Indianapolis, Indiana; Providence, Rhode Island; Atlanta, Georgia; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Cleveland, Ohio. Florida's labor force is flourishing, with an annual growth rate of 3.2%, surpassing the national rate of 2.3%, according to FloridaCommerce. In November 2023, the Orlando metro area added 26,600 new private sector jobs, experiencing a growth of 2%. But the same isn't true of erstwhile postmistress, Mabel Stranks. For she and her wartime exploits are the opposite of unremarkable. Indeed it's astonishing! And it's because of Mabel Stranks that this building is included in Swindon in 50 More Buildings.
