🌟 Embracing the Power of Learning Together 🌟 Today, I had the privilege of participating in a dynamic multi-professional preceptorship study day, uniting newly qualified registered professionals and experienced internationally educated professionals new to Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Our focus today was Learning Disability Awareness and Supervision and this is our second cohort of social workers to join the programme. What struck me most was the synergy created by learning together. Learning together isn't just about acquiring information; it's about fostering collaboration, empathy, and growth. And I experienced this in the reflective groups and with colleague facilitators. In our discussions, perspectives were explored, experiences were shared, and contexts made clearer. It affirms my belief that when we come together to learn, we not only expand our individual horizons but also strengthen the fabric of our professional community to better serve the people we work alongside.  #socialwork #LearningTogether #ProfessionalDevelopment #Collaboration #Innovation

💡 Mr. Jones has been a resident of your facility for three months. He notified the nursing assistant and dietician on four separate occasions that he did not like the food that he was being served. He often felt hungry after meals. Mr. Jones felt his needs were not being met and decided to file a grievance. 📢 This scenario sounds all too familiar. The actions that occur next can make or break you. Your partnership with your social worker in how grievances are received and addressed is crucial in decreasing your overall risk. Assess the current state of your grievance process. ✔ Collaborate with your social worker to evaluate your facility’s grievance process and identify gaps. ✔ Review your grievance policy to ensure that it is relevant and current. ✔ Evaluate your education plan. ✔ Confirm that staff receive annual training on grievance. ✔ Review how residents and families are educated. ✔ Evaluate your plan to provide support to residents that need help filing a grievance. ✔ Discuss how grievances are investigated, including the documentation process. ✔ Evaluate each grievance as an opportunity for improvement. ✔ Review how residents are notified on the grievance outcome. 🌟 Be proactive instead of reactive. Today, I had the opportunity to participate in the Oliver McGowan Tier 2 training organized by Harmony Healthcare. It was an insightful and valuable experience that offered deep perspectives on improving care and support for people with learning disabilities and autism. While the training provided a valuable opportunity for learning, some people took the chance to share personal experiences and insights during the Q&A sessions. However, after the session, I became aware of certain labels being applied , which led me to reflect on the broader lessons we should take from such experiences. Being described as a “control freak” or a “cleaner” for how some people manage emotions made me consider how organizations can better support not just the learning process itself, but also the individuals participating in it, ensuring a more empathetic and understanding approach. The real takeaway should be fostering a culture of empathy and trust, where people can express themselves without fear of judgment or labels. For organizations, especially in the healthcare sector, the key to improving services lies in embracing diversity in thought and approach where people feel comfortable contributing and where their experiences are valued.
