Imagine Housing - who owns and oversees Rosecrest Apts. along with other low income housing properties throughout East King County, touts their commitment to keep their tenants housed, stable n safe, and for tenants to always reach out in emergency situations.
Notta word from them during this devastating Bomb Cyclone that recently hit their multiple properties. Yet they are still somehow able to actively promote their 'community efforts and contributions' during this time.
Um, to whom?
Imagine Housing continues to neglect/ignore their properties/tenants who reach out in dire need. Past and present. Most importantly, COVID. And now THIS.

Our organization is centered on ending homelessness, and this Indigenous Peoples’ Day we are mindful of the unique challenges that Indigenous communities face, including homelessness. Indigenous people in America experience homelessness at disproportionately higher rates compared to other groups, a consequence of historical and systemic injustices. For many Indigenous individuals, homelessness is not just a lack of physical shelter but a disconnection from their cultural and community ties. Supporting Indigenous-led initiatives and housing programs across the nation represents a meaningful step towards addressing these challenges. Today, we elevate the powerful work being accomplished at Chief Seattle Club to ensure a world without homelessness. https://lnkd.in/ggRbz7-v

💙 This National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, we’re celebrating Decatur Cooperative Ministry Incorporated (DCM), a beacon of hope for families and individuals facing housing insecurity in DeKalb County.
🏠 With over 50 years of experience, DCM addresses housing instability by providing emergency shelter, transitional housing, and long-term solutions. They understand that challenges like domestic violence, hunger, and lack of access to educational support are often interwoven, creating barriers to safety and stability.
💡 DCM’s holistic approach empowers clients to rebuild their lives, whether through finding safe housing, pursuing education, or healing from cycles of violence. Their work reminds us that tackling homelessness requires compassion, creativity, and a focus on each person’s unique journey.
🤲 Join me in recognizing DCM and others who are committed to creating pathways toward equity and resilience. Together, we can advocate for communities where everyone has a safe place to call home.

This is an excellent article by two leading advocates for affordable housing and eradicating homelessness. One key takeaway comes from this quote: "While people enduring homelessness often face serious challenges—joblessness, health problems, domestic abuse, racial discrimination—placing them rapidly into a permanent home with supportive services is the most effective way of keeping them permanently off the streets. A 2021 study showed that prioritizing housing with services decreased homelessness by 88 percent. It's also a good investment. An independent CDC panel found that for every dollar invested in such housing, taxpayers realize $1.44 in savings." - We all win if we do the right thing. The recent Supreme Court decision criminalizing homelessness does the opposite.
Punitive approaches only serve to send more people spiraling into homelessness. Instead, we know the real fix—getting people into homes with supportive services.

In Charlotte, we're witnessing a critical challenge that touches the heart of our community — the rising tide of homelessness. This year, we're turning our focus toward understanding and addressing the complexities of housing instability in our city. Insights from the 2023 State of Housing Instability & Homelessness report by Mecklenburg County Community Support Services have been eye-opening:
⬆️ The count of individuals facing homelessness in our community is on the rise.
⬆️ An increase in the number of people experiencing homelessness without shelter.
⬆️ People are spending more time in emergency shelters than before.
The availability of affordable rental options is dwindling.
⬆️ An increasing number of low- and moderate-income families are finding it hard to secure and maintain housing.
⬆️ The rate of evictions is climbing.
Charlotte, we're curious to hear your thoughts. Were you aware of these issues? Do these findings surprise you? More importantly, how can we come together as a community to support those in need and find sustainable solutions to these challenges?
Let's start the conversation and more importantly, let's start taking action. If you're ready to make a difference or want to learn more about our involvement and what you can do, let's talk. Together, we can make a change.
