Today we are celebrating #PurpleTuesday which has a common goal of improving the customer experience for people with a disability 365 days a year. This year the theme is #ThinkAccessibility. The focus is on promoting accessibility everywhere, everyday for everyone. At Unity Works, we are leading by example. Our vision is an inclusive world where people with a learning disability who want to work, can work. Our social enterprises offer inclusive training as well as opportunities to gain qualifications and employment opportunities for people with a learning disability. We’re always looking at ways to improve accessibility across our programmes. Recent developments include working on an accessible learning portal for trainees, learners, and jobseekers across our programme to manage their action plans, CVs and achievements. #Accessibility #Disability #InclusiveWorkPlaces #Inclusivity #PurpleTuesday2024

Happy Purple Tuesday! 💜 At SIC, we're very much behind the team at Purple Tuesday and their goal of creating more accessible businesses - and a statistic from Scope about exactly why more accessible business is needed. £4,300 less a year means £2.35 less per hour! Here's a quote from Purple Tuesday's website: 'Purple Tuesday connects disabled people with businesses – from global giants to micro enterprises – and is dedicated to promoting a more accessible and inclusive world by highlighting the value and contributions of people with disabilities as consumers, employees, and community members. In the last year alone, Purple Tuesday has supported organisations to deliver 7200 new accessibility changes to improve the customer experience for disabled people and their families. A record 7,000 organisations across 13 countries are taking part in today’s celebrations, with national events taking place in the UK, Germany, the UAE, Oman Hong Kong, Malaysia, Pakistan and the USA.' What are you doing today to make your business more accessible? #PurpleTuesday #ThinkAccessibility #ImageID Two graphics, both with lilac backgrounds. They both have arty black and yellow squiggles and stars in the corner. The first graphic says 'SIC + Purple Tuesday'. SIC is in yellow and Purple Tuesday is in purple, both against white circular backgrounds. The second one says 'Did you know? Disabled people earn £4,300 less per year.' This is written in black against a white circle.

𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞=𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲? A community is a group of people who share common interests, goals, or characteristics and come together to support, interact, and collaborate with one another. It's a network of individuals bound by geographic proximity, shared values, cultural heritage, or other factors. Communities can be small, like a neighborhood, or large, like a city or even a global online community. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬? Celebrating communities involves recognizing and honoring the diversity, culture, and contributions of its members. We need to provide opportunities for people to come together, showcase their unique traditions, customs, and cuisines, and learn about each other's backgrounds. Storytime! Imagine you’ve been invited to the party of the season! You’re so excited. After counting the days down, you’re finally outside, ready to make your grand entrance. You’re ready to mingle like a Pringle and dance the night away. You’re about to step in, but out of nowhere, boom! A barrier blocks your entrance. You can’t get in. A barrier is physically stopping you. You try the back door, but the same thing happens. You think about climbing through a window but remember the last time you did that, you broke your sister’s Westlife CD and hurt yourself in the process. No matter how hard you try, you just can’t get in. You start asking people for help, but they just smile and walk on by, there’s no barrier stopping them. You try again, and this person is a bit more sympathetic, promising to get help once they’re inside. You’re thankful and super grateful that someone actually stopped to listen. And off they pop, inside to get help. Only help doesn’t come. You sit there waiting and waiting, but no one comes. You start asking more people this time, more desperately. Yet, people continue to make empty promises to send help, or they just blank you. No matter how much you scream or shout for help, it doesn’t come. You feel angry. You feel embarrassed. You feel frustrated. The party you were once excited to attend has turned into you being left on the outside, looking in. That is what it feels like to encounter an inaccessible barrier. That is what it feels like to be excluded. That is what it can feel like to be Disabled By Society. Only, it’s not just a party. It’s workplaces, products, services, content, environments, events, it’s our everyday. Image Description: A Disabled By Society quote graphic. Set on a dark background with colourful blocks running parallel along the top and bottom of the page. A quote centred reads, "The story of inaccessibility is one we hear all too often, but have you ever wondered what it’s like to be the main character in that story?” #WednesdayWisdon #DisabledBySociety #Accessibility #DisabilityInclusion

What an incredible gesture! 👏 Braceborough Hall has just leveled up their resident experiences, thanks to an anonymous hero! 🦸♂️ Imagine residents re-living cherished moments, as they roll through the countryside with the breeze in their hair, all set for trips to places like Hunstanton for some good old promenade strolls and ice cream treats. 🍦🚌 That's exactly what's on the cards due to the heartfelt generosity of a mystery donor responding to a fundraiser and securing a minibus for the care home. Let's talk about enriching lives! These outings aren't just trips; they're sensory time capsules that unlock precious memories and meaningful conversations, truly making a difference in the daily lives of the elderly. 🌟 For anyone involved in the care sector, let this tale be a beacon of inspiration and kindness. ❓ Can I put our name on your waiting lists please? ❓ We are receiving lots of emails around this as many of our sessions are now fully subscribed. 😎 ‼️We Too! doesn't operate waiting lists for our sessions‼️ For the "Summer In The City" Sessions, it's part of the funding agreeement that we don't keep waiting lists and you can see details of this here: https://lnkd.in/gs_ugbuS. 🤓 For our extended programme, we just don’t have the capacity as a small team to administer waiting lists. Very often, spaces become available only an hour or so before the session begins – at this point we are usually on site and trying to set up the session. 😅 If we stop setting up to start calling people on a waiting list then the session falls behind being ready in time as we try and call through a list of people with very little notice offering spaces. However we do confirmation calls 48 hours before each session to ensure everyone remembers they have booked a space to come along to help reduce no shows. 👌 To this end – once we do get a cancellation, it shows on our TicketSource pages very quickly, therefore our advice would be to check back on the site often as places can and are cancelled all the time throughout the summer and as we already mentioned, often just an hour or so beforehand. 🙌 https://lnkd.in/e-E-TGXx We would love to see you join some of our Relaxed Sessions this summer, so please do keep a check on the pages and if we are aware of any availability we do also try to post it onto our social media platforms too. 😀 #WeTooAberdeen #MoreThanAMagazine #NinjasAssemble #Inclusion #NinjasLoveInclusion #RelaxedSessions #Summer2024 #Aberdeen #Aberdeenshire

We are starting the week with gratitude and purpose. Planning this week reminds me of how we keep the wheels turning in community end-of-life care, using what we have and building authentic connections. 🚗✨ This beautiful photo of a trusty scooter with my name on it was a kind gift from a local Thursday morning tea group member. It reminds me of the importance of community, mobility, and creativity. As we stay connected, it's clear that access to transport for medical appointments and cemetery visits requires some creative problem-solving in our region, and together, we support each other. The little heart bowls in the background are crafted from modelling clay made from outdated end-of-life brochures, turning what was once obsolete into something that holds us literally as we navigate care and collaboration. In our work, we discover what people love and what makes their lives meaningful until the end. Now, more than ever, we’re writing our story of collaboration, knowing we need others to join us—people whose values of equity, justice, and accessibility align with ours. Here’s to those keeping the wheels turning in our communities and the many more who’ll join us on this journey. 💛 #communitycare #endoflifecare #funerals #equity #collaboration #creative #problemsolving #accessibility #justice #sunshinecoast #queensland
