Do you have Vitreous floaters that are really bothering you? New limited Vitrectomy techniques can assist. Learn more here.
In honor of Clinical Trials Day (5/20/24), I wanted to share this patient video describing the impact of a new procedure for removing clinically significant vitreous opacities. He was our last patient enrolled in our prospective study using the 1 Step Limited Vitreous Removal device. Data should be ready to publish in a few months. His testimonial drives home the point that we have minimized the impact of vitreous opacities in our patients for so many years, telling them, “you will get used to it,” or “it’s a normal part of the aging process.” We often said those phrases because we didn’t have safe options to remove those opacities, but now we do. It’s similar to how we approached cataract surgery many years ago telling patients, “you are not ripe enough yet,” even though they couldn’t drive or perform daily tasks. But as the phaco technology and IOLs improved, our definition of “clinically significant cataracts” changed and now we are removing cataracts much earlier than before. Our decision to perform surgery and accept the potential adverse events of any surgery depends on whether we believe the condition is worth treating. People who are truly suffering from these opacities sometimes have the same negative effect on quality of life as cataract, retina, or glaucoma patients… I truly believe they deserve the same level of attention as these other patients. Wanted to thank our amazing research team, sponsors, and most importantly, our patients for being involved in clinical trials. Your willingness to be a part of these studies has played a crucial role in advancing medical knowledge and improving healthcare outcomes for countless individuals. Your selflessness and trust in our research team are truly commendable. Thank you for being a part of something greater and for making a lasting impact on the future of Eyecare. #research #ophthalmology #eyecare #viteous #floaters #vista

#WFITN2024 #INReporters 👉 𝗣𝗿. 𝗚𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗻 talked about the various options of 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙤𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙘 𝙝𝙮𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙄𝙄𝙃. To resume: ➡️ optic nerve fenestration is obsolete, moderately effective & on visual signs only. It does not address other symptoms of IIH. This technique has been widely used but the drawback is a high rate of minor complications & recurrences. ➡️ CSF shunt : effective on all symptoms & fast but the main limitation is the recurrence at 12 months of symptoms around 40%. ➡️ Bariatric surgery is a “physiologic” treatment (BMI more than 35) effective if weight loss of more than 24%. The rate of complications is significative at the post op period & long term. ➡️ Venous stenting appears to be the most appropriate “physiologic” intervention, most effective on symptoms with a recurrence rate at 12 months between 10-15%. Rare but severe brain hemorrhages exist and related to the lack of flexibility, trackability of the stents. Pr. Gobin highlighted the fact that using telescopic multiple stents is a risk factor of having a brain hemorrhage. Using a single long stent could increase the safety of the procedure & limit the complications. 👉 The 2nd speaker highlighted the fact that we are still lacking strong data to guide our decisions and recent metanalysis is showing that only 1/3 of patient benefit for durable clinical benefit. 💡𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝘋𝘳. This study is a testament to the incredible value of bariatric surgery in the fight against obesity and diabetes. While medications like Ozempic can be effective, the ongoing costs can become a heavy burden over time 💊💸. Sleeve gastrectomy, on the other hand, offers patients not just immediate health improvements but also long-term cost savings. It’s exciting to see data that supports a holistic approach to managing these conditions. #BariatricCare #HealthEconomics https://lnkd.in/gRhNcMn2
