🌊 Happy International Youth Day!🌍 Today, we celebrate the incredible power of youth in driving sustainable development, especially in the Blue Economy sector. At Ocean Nurture Network, we believe that youth are the backbone of the future, playing a crucial role in the sustainability of our marine resources. 🐟 Empowering young people with the skills they need to succeed, ensuring access to finance, and building strong links to markets are essential steps toward creating dignified and fulfilling jobs. 🌱 These opportunities not only uplift individual lives but also significantly reduce poverty levels across the coastal regions of Kenya. Moreover, we are fostering leadership among youth to ensure they are at the forefront of decision-making in the Blue Economy. 🗣️ By equipping them with the necessary tools and platforms, we are nurturing a generation that will lead us into a future where marine resources are managed responsibly, ensuring long-term prosperity for all. 🌏 Let’s continue to support our youth as they take on this vital role in building a sustainable and prosperous future for Kenya’s coastal communities. 💙 #InternationalYouthDay #BlueEconomy #Sustainability #YouthEmpowerment #OceanNurtureNetwork #Kenya

I am pleased to be invited to Washington D.C by the International Monetary Fund as a young professional and #IMFFellow. 😎👏🎉 In 2020, I was selected as a winner of the #IMFFellowship youth contest. My multimedia submission focused on the fact that at the time, there were nearly 453 million youth aged 15-35 in Africa. They were the most affected by the health and economic crisis caused by Covid-19. Imagine their economic potential if we promote policies to create jobs and opportunities for them. Each year, 10 to 12 million of us enter the workforce in Africa, but only 3.1 million jobs are created. My proposals focused on: ✅Investing in Education and training which have attributed to private returns of more than 20% in Africa. ✅Investing in Hydroponic farming which saves almost 70-90% more water compared to traditional farming methods. ✅Encouraging the growth of the informal sector is important as it attributes to 28% of the national output of Kenya’s economy. ✅Countries should also adopt green construction and equip young people with the skills to get jobs in this sector. ✅Sustainable tourism could contribute to a) SDG 8 on economic growth. b) SDG 14 on conserving and sustainably using oceans, seas and marine resources.Youth with disabilities could be hired as masseurs and trained to make jewellery and artifacts using local products which can be purchased by tourists. I called upon world leaders to promote employment, sustainable economic growth and reduced poverty for our generation. These jobs must be safe, inclusive and decent for all of us. 👷♀️👩🦯👌🏽 When young people thrive, we all thrive. 💪🏿 Link: 👇 https://lnkd.in/dqqCh6KD

This year's International Youth Day theme, "Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development," aligns with the Digital Superhighway and Creative Economy pillar of President William Ruto's administration's bottom-up economic agenda for a transformed Kenya. Kenya's digital economy is supported by five pillars: Digital Infrastructure, Digital Government, Digital Business, Innovation-Driven Entrepreneurship, and Digital Skills and Values. A 2023 report by the UNFCCC highlights that over 60% of Africa's population is under the age of 35, and young Africans are expected to make up 42% of the global youth population by 2030. Despite this, youth inclusion remains a challenge. Organisations and stakeholders in Public Finance Management should make deliberate efforts to invest in youth development by promoting digital skills enhancement for meaningful work. Happy Youth Day! . #PublicFinanceManagement #ExpertiseGlobal

South Africa’s Youth Day serves as a reminder that young people possess the ability to drive change in their own unique ways. By harnessing their strengths, passions, and values, they can effectively tackle the challenges of today and lay the foundation for a brighter tomorrow. According to the United Nations, Africa has the youngest population in the world, with 70% of sub-Saharan Africa being under the age of 30. As we celebrate Youth Day, we want to acknowledge the work of our Oliver Wyman South Africa team in taking strides towards nurturing a sustainable path to a better Africa for all by collaborating with organizations such as the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) and FSD Africa. “Our innovation and energy are essential for achieving sustainable economic progress. Our potential is South Africa's greatest asset" - Sechaba Oa Selialia. “The future of South Africa's economy depends on our innovative and youthful spirit. Empowering this spirit is the crucial first step towards achieving sustainable development" - Ireen Semenya. “The future lies in our hands. By supporting sustainable initiatives, we can lead South Africa towards economic successes that are also positive for nature" - Stephanie Halton. #YouthDay #YouthDevelopment

THOUGHT 💡 As Botswana celebrates its 58th Independence Day,BW it’s time to reflect on the role of the youth in shaping our future. The solution to many of our nation's challenges—whether in government, the economy, or society—lies in empowering young people and giving them more opportunities to lead. With so many youth pursuing higher education 📚, they’re ready to contribute! If more young voices were heard, our education system would thrive, and unemployment would be met with fresh, innovative solutions. 💼✨ But here’s the catch: young people can’t just wait for opportunities to come their way. We need to act now. 🏃♀️💪 Youth empowerment starts with individual initiative, and it’s time for leaders to embrace the ideas and energy of the next generation. Today’s young Batswana are tomorrow’s decision-makers, and their inclusion can transform our society for the better. 🌍🚀 Of course, fighting corruption is key to building a sustainable future. Instead of rushing for quick gains, let’s cultivate patience 🧘♂️ and integrity, building a nation where success is shared and long-term. Together, we can create a thriving Botswana—powered by the youth! 💙💪 #BotswanaAt58 #YouthEmpowerment #Leadership #IndependenceDay

The youth agenda has been described as the catalyst to accelerated socioeconomic transformation of Africa in the 21st century. Developed countries appears to appreciate this fact. This has placed ahead of other countries in the world. The reverse is true for the African continent. For a long time ,the young people of Africa have occupied the back banner in critical matters of national development. As a result ,the youth are economically disadvantaged and politically disfranchised. However, there is an awakening of the dotcom generation. They are demanding to be given their rightful place in key decision making process. Kenya is among the countries with a very robust and innovative youthful generation. It is incumbent upon the leadership to tap the skills ,talents and energies to power the economic development.

The African continent is facing challenges in sustainable development, with economic growth and human development (education) gaps being crucial factors. Economic stability leads to a peaceful and sustainable life for its citizens. However, Africa's economic growth and human resource development are still experiencing serious gaps, which should be of concern to the world through humanitarian organizations. Economic growth has been below the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target of 7% per year and the historical long-term average. Globalization has been under immense pressure, leading to deceleration in recent years, dwindling global trade, depressed commodity prices, and unfavorable climatic conditions. Social inclusion is outstripped by population growth, impeding structural transformation and future productivity, leading many African countries to low income generation. Health, drinking water, and sanitation issues are major concerns in many African countries. Human capacity development is the foundation for every nation and continent, but many African countries lack it due to corruption and bad leadership and representation. International, local, and governmental organizations are working to improve livelihoods in many African countries, but more needs to be done to ensure everyone lives a sustainable life. A child born in Africa today is at risk of not receiving a full, high-quality education or decent healthcare. Poor quality education services and financial constraints prevent many from visiting hospitals. Some African countries have a Human Capital Index score of less than 0.4, meaning that a child born today in these countries will only be 40% as productive at 18 years of age as one who completes their education and enjoys full health.
