1. A New York man, Keith Thomas, regained movement after receiving an AI-powered brain implant following a diving accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down. 2. Thomas underwent a 15-hour surgery, where five microchips were implanted in his brain to connect movement and sensation signals. 3. The procedure is the first of its kind to electronically link the brain, body, and spinal cord in a paralyzed human, enabling lasting movement and sensation. 4. Significant milestones include Thomas feeling his sister's hand for the first time in three years, doubling his arm strength, and independently lifting a cup to drink. 5. Thomas has also regained sensation in areas below his injury, indicating improved communication between his brain and body. 6. The clinical trial aims to help Thomas gain more movement and sensation and potentially drive a motorized wheelchair independently. 7. Researchers are optimistic about Thomas's continued improvement and are expanding the clinical trial to include more participants. 8. The study highlights the potential of AI and brain-computer interface technology to revolutionize treatment for paralysis and other conditions.
