Most triathletes pray for a current-assisted swim on race day. But in some cases, the current is NOT your friend. 🏊🏻♀️ 💦 I teamed up with OWS expert (and super positive and inspiring human being 🌈) “Coach Leo” Briceno for an article in Triathlete Magazine that contains the 7 keys to swimming in open water current. 🔑 We also discuss the difference between a rip current and rip tide. 🌊 https://lnkd.in/d-f_Mvgh

I got to write this neat personal profile for my open water swim club, #Copenwater! A fine vehicle from which to shout out both my fantastic workplace, #ICES, and the endlessly giving open water swimming community. ---tiny excerpt:--- Of course, communities of enthusiasts enjoying their leisure time tend to be good places to look for company. Nevertheless, I suspect that there is something special about open water swimmers! It may be that the sport attracts people who are reasonably good at checking their egos. After all, if you are coming to the open water “just” to swim—work on stroke technique, chase a personal best, win medals—then the sea is not the most obliging place. Open water swimmers seek variety and the unexpected; the challenge and interest of this sport comes substantially from the element of change. And of course, one always has to be wary and alert on behalf of oneself and one’s svømmemakker. In other words, open water swimmers are constantly being humbled by the environment. While there is no shortage of ambition and drive, these are always balanced by humility and acceptance that humans don’t make the final call. I think that that is quite an essential attitude with which to face the great big world, and I am happy to be around people who have accepted this. ----International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) Álfrún Sigurdardóttir Celine Byrne Ffion Bell Jörn Schmidt

🏊♂️ Making Waves in the Bid Proposal Industry on Swim a Lap Day! 🏊♀️ Today, 24 June, we’re celebrating Swim a Lap Day—a day dedicated to diving into the pool and reaping the benefits of a great swim. Just as swimming a lap requires focus, endurance, and technique, so does crafting the perfect bid proposal. Here’s how Swim a Lap Day inspires our work in the bid proposal industry: - Stamina and Persistence: Just like swimming, creating a winning bid proposal takes stamina and persistence. Each stroke in the pool is akin to each step in our proposal process—steady, focused, and determined to reach the finish line. - Attention to Detail: Swimming with proper form and technique mirrors our attention to detail in proposals. Every detail matters, whether it’s perfecting your freestyle stroke or refining the key points of a proposal. - Team Collaboration: Swimming can be both an individual and a team effort. Similarly, successful bid proposals often require the collaboration of a dedicated team, each bringing their strengths to ensure a winning submission. - Refreshing Perspectives: A good swim can clear the mind and provide new perspectives. Taking a break to swim a lap might spark innovative ideas and creative solutions that can be incorporated into our proposals. - Balancing Health and Work: Prioritizing wellness, like taking a swim, helps maintain a healthy work-life balance. A healthy, energized team is more productive and capable of producing outstanding work. Join us in celebrating Swim a Lap Day by taking a refreshing break and diving into the pool. Let’s bring the same energy and focus back to our bid proposals, ensuring we stay ahead in the industry. Happy Swimming! 🌊 #SwimALapDay #BidProposalIndustry #WorkLifeBalance #TeamCollaboration #AttentionToDetail #Innovation #WellnessInWork #APMPSA #APMP

The myth that you need to be a good swimmer to enjoy the water is a common misconception that can prevent individuals from fully embracing aquatic activities. However, it's important to recognize that there are numerous ways to experience the water safely and joyfully, regardless of your swimming ability. Here's why you don't need to be a strong swimmer to enjoy the water: 1. One of the simplest ways to enjoy the water without being a strong swimmer is to stay in the shallow end of a pool. In this area, you can splash around, play games, or practice basic water movements in a safe and controlled environment. 2. For those who prefer to stay close to shore, wading in shallow water or paddling along the water's edge can be a delightful experience. You can dip your toes in the water, search for shells along the beach, or explore the shoreline at your own pace. 3. If you're not confident in your swimming abilities, wearing a life jacket or floatation device can provide added safety and peace of mind. These devices help keep you buoyant and afloat, allowing you to venture further into deeper water without fear of sinking. 4. Tri720 Cheatcodes Coaching Academy offers swimming classes specifically designed for individuals of all swimming abilities. These classes include a low-impact workout while keeping you safely supported by the water. 5. Water-based activities can be enjoyed as a group or with family members, creating opportunities for shared experiences and bonding. Whether it's a leisurely swim, a game of water volleyball, or a picnic by the lake, the water offers a versatile backdrop for socializing and fun. So you see, you don't need to be a proficient swimmer to appreciate the water's many pleasures. Using appropriate safety measures, and embracing the joy of being in the water, you can find ways to enjoy aquatic environments safely and confidently.
