Did you know there are over 11,000 species of seaweeds, each with its own unique qualities and characteristics? During our growth experiments in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica, we focused our research on four fascinating species: - Codium - Gracilaria - Ulva lactuca - Sargassum Liebmannii These educational fact guides showcase the diverse real-world applications of these remarkable seaweeds. #OceansOasis #WorldSeaweedDay #Seaweed #MacroAlgae #SeaweedFarming #Aquaculture #BlueEconomy

Algae are a group of autotrophic and heterotrophic organisms that do not have organs with significant differences in function. One of the microalgae groups is phytoplankton. There are many types and species of plankton in pond water, however, only certain types and species are the ones that we want to have the most dominant presence. We can recognize some algae just from the color of the water. Come on, take a look at this post! #algae #aquaculture #bloomingalgae #typerofalgae #algaeforshrimp #shrimpfarm

𝐃𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧? 🟣During the travels of this cold season (December 2023–January 2024) for projects located in Southern Dobrogea, a species of crocus which blossoms during the autumn-winter period has been identified. In the cold season this species has only flowers, while in the spring its leaves grow as well. Numerous specimens were identified in the meadows of the investigated area. 🟣The name of the species described above is 𝑪𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒖𝒔 𝒑𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒊, an endangered plant species according to the 𝑅𝑒𝑑 𝐿𝑖𝑠𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑉𝑎𝑠𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑟 𝑃𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑅𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑎 (Dihoru & Negrean, 2009), a rare species according to the 𝑅𝑒𝑑 𝐿𝑖𝑠𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑆𝑢𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑜𝑟 𝑃𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑅𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑎 (Oltean et al., 1994) and the 𝑅𝑒𝑑 𝐿𝑖𝑠𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝐸𝑥𝑡𝑖𝑟𝑝𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑑, 𝐸𝑛𝑑𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑑, 𝑉𝑢𝑙𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑅𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑉𝑎𝑠𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑟 𝑃𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑅𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑎 (Boșcaiu et al., 1994), and it falls into the NT sozological category according to the 𝐶𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝐿𝑖𝑠𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑉𝑎𝑠𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑟 𝑃𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑅𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑎 (Oprea, 2005).

𝙃𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙡𝙚 𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙨 (𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗳 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀) 𝘏𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘭𝘦 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘴, or commonly known as 'Narrowleaf seagrass' is a seagrass species that can be found in lower regions of the intertidal zone that belongs to the family Cymodoceaceae. Growing at depths up to 20m, narrowleaf seagrass can be found in shallow Pacific and Indian oceanic waters. The leaf margin is smooth and the leaf tip has three distinct points (called “teeth”), one in the middle and one on each side. This trident shape is very distinctive to identify the species. Narrowleaf seagrass is less tolerant of exposure to air. Therefore it is found fully submerged in any tidal condition. In India, it has been used as a fertilizer. These seagrasses are considered a pioneer species, growing rapidly and surviving well in unstable and depositional environments and also the favoured food of the Dugong and are often heavily grazed. Commonly found in Sri Lankan waters, 𝘏𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘭𝘦 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘴 is listed as Least Concern species under the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2007. ONE SPECIES' SCAT IS ANOTHER SPECIES' HOME 🌿 Happy Wednesday! Today's Wild Wednesday Fun Fact.... did you know that a koalas scat is pivotal to the survival of a species of moth? The Koala Scat Moth - or Telanepsia Stockeri - uses koala scat as it's 'larval host'. It lays it's eggs in koala scat, which in the most part contain partly digested gum leaves 🌿 The caterpillar will spend it's whole time feeding inside a single scat and once it emerges as a moth has pale grey forewings with some dark markings. 🐨 Koalas are an umbrella species, meaning their survival is pivotal to the survival of many other species. Given this, it's been suggested that the Koala Scat Moth could be close to extinction in Australia too, due to the drastic reduction in koala numbers since the black summer bushfires. 💚 So there you have it! Interesting fun fact! 🐨 #koalafacts #wildwednesdayfunfact #koala #umbrellaspecies #koalaconservationaustralia

Taxus baccata is a species of evergreen tree in the family Taxaceae, native to Western Europe, Central Europe and Southern Europe, as well as Northwest Africa, northern Iran, and Southwest Asia.It is the tree originally known as yew, though with other related trees becoming known, it may be referred to as common yew,European yew, or in North America English yew.It is a woodland tree in its native range, and is also grown as an ornamental tree, hedge or topiary. The plant is poisonous, with toxins that can be absorbed through inhalation, ingestion, and transpiration through the skin.Consuming any part of the tree, excluding the aril, can be deadly and the consumption of even a small amount of the foliage can result in death.
