➡ The ocean is a powerful source of climate solutions. ➡ Reducing emissions is the most important thing we can do for the ocean. Encouraging to see "quiet and growing confidence" in US offshore wind (to the tune of $1B recently signed deals) as reported here. 🌊 #OceanClimateAction
No matter where we live or who we vote for, we all want affordable, reliable, secure, American-made energy. That's why U.S. offshore wind energy is positioned for long-term success, with recent developments showcasing the industry's resilience. Per Jennifer Dlouhy, around $1 billion in recent offshore wind deals have been sealed along the U.S. East Coast, underscoring its robust future. Governor Glenn Youngkin of Virginia just celebrated a $681 million investment in an offshore wind cable manufacturing plant in Chesapeake, Dominion's Virginia subsidiary just bought the Kitty Hawk North offshore wind lease, and Baltimore, Maryland is getting a new factory to build high-voltage cable for offshore wind. As JC Sandberg from the American Clean Power Association aptly puts it: "You’re seeing what happens when the investment starts to happen and take hold. Economic development is good, regardless of political party." Read more about this encouraging trend here: #OffshoreWind #EnergySecurity

The path forward for Pacific US offshore wind is becoming clearer, although slowly While offshore wind is making big strides on the US East Coast, progress in the Pacific US has been more cautious. Despite the excellent wind speeds and strong political ambitions for a green energy transition, there are also challenges suggesting offshore wind development in the Pacific US is not expected pre-2035. The recent postponement of Oregon’s lease sale due to insufficient bidder interest highlights the limited short-term opportunities for offshore wind development in the Pacific US. California has taken the lead as the first mover in the region, but the future of planned lease sales in Oregon, Californi,a and Hawaii remain uncertain due to the upcoming presidential election. At Aegir Insights’ we have published a new Market Playbook giving an in-depth overview of the Pacific US offshore wind market, including: 🔹analyzing greenfield opportunities and auction timelines 🔹 offtake situation 🔹 market attractiveness and more. Is the Supply Chain Ready—or are they Gone with the Wind? Continuing my daily reflections on what drives success in Offshore Wind projects, here’s today’s critical thought: “Offshore wind is hailed as the future, but are we doing enough to prepare the supply chain? Without investment in infrastructure and capacity, ambition alone won’t keep the turbines turning.” The reality is, the global supply chain isn’t waiting around. Countries acting quickly and decisively are locking in resources—ports, vessels, factories, and skilled workers—needed to succeed in their own markets. If we keep delaying, we risk finding the entire supply chain too busy to support our projects when we’re finally ready. Ambition means nothing without action. If we’re serious about offshore wind, we need to start building now—investing in infrastructure, capacity, and partnerships to avoid bottlenecks and failure. What’s your take—are we already falling behind in securing the future of offshore wind? #OffshoreWind #SupplyChain #GreenTransition #RenewableEnergy #ActionNow #GoneWithTheWind

"Where has all the money gone?" A great presentation by Matthew Taylor, Managing Director at Green Giraffe at our Annual Asia-Pacific Offshore Wind Roundtable this week. Delays to offshore wind projects in development will slow down growth in future installations. Over the past two years, the offshore wind sector has faced headwinds due to various factors. One of the key factors is the fact that OW Capex has increased almost 40% since 2021 combined with high interest rates. Inflation has eased but has proven difficult to shake off, which makes interest rate cuts unpredictable. Current headwinds for the offshore wind industry will slowdown but will not disappear in the short term.
