𝗖𝗔𝗦 𝘂𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗢𝗖'𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝟮𝟮 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘄 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗕𝗔 On 22nd June 2023, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) withdrew its recognition of the International Boxing Association (IBA) due to governance, finance, refereeing and ethical issues, consequently the latter was not involved in running any boxing events. Since the IOC withdrew its recognition of the IBA as the International Boxing Federation, Olympic boxing has been run and governed directly by the IOC itself, which has organized the qualifying tournaments for Paris 2024 and the Olympic tournament itself. On 27 June 2023, the IBA filed an appeal at the TAS/CAS Tribunal Arbitral du Sport / Court of Arbitration for Sport / Tribunal Arbitral del Deporte (CAS) against the decision of the IOC and sought to have it annulled and set aside in full. However, on 2nd April 2024, CAS has dismissed the appeal filed by (IBA) against the decision of the IOC on the basis that IBA did not meet the conditions set by the IOC for recognition. Following the above-mentioned CAS Award, the IOC announced that if boxing remained without a recognized governing body, there would be no boxing on the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, furthermore, the IOC made clear that any boxer whose National Federation adheres to the IBA will not be able to participate in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. #MuñozAriasSportsLawyers #sportslawyers #CAS
