Do food companies need to worry about the 'nature-related risks' of the farms they source from? A question I’m asking Think of what’s going on in The River Wye, plus the rise of mega farm, struggles to comply with environmental pollution regs across likes of dairy and now the legal opinion stating that companies do need to consider nature-related risks under English company law, and it’s a heady mix of issues food firms are facing. So, do food companies sourcing from farms (whether mega or not) need to be concerning themselves with the environmental impact those farms have - especially when half of farms outside of the environmental permitting regime have been found outside of compliance with environmental rules? If so, does this mean we'll be seeing more of the type of cases just launched against chicken processor Avara for its impact on the river Wye? Those interested in chatting. Please do drop me a line.

💧 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲: 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 (𝐃𝐖𝐃) The Drinking Water Directive (DWD), established in 1998 and revised on January 12, 2021, safeguards public health and the environment by ensuring safe drinking water and minimizing contamination risks. It sets minimum standards for materials in contact with drinking water across the EU, enhancing consumer protection and market efficiency. Article 11 introduces a framework for maintaining hygiene standards, including European positive lists of authorized substances and streamlined update procedures. Starting from the end of 2025, economic operators and national authorities can propose list modifications, with applications for new entries or amendments to ECHA accepted by the end of 2026. These updates promote the safety and quality of EU drinking water, fostering public health and environmental sustainability. #DrinkingWater #EURegulations #PublicHealth #EnvironmentalProtection Source: https://lnkd.in/dX2xeRBV
