California’s SB 707, also known as the Responsible Textile Recovery Act of 2024, is setting the stage for a major shift in how brands and consumers approach textile waste. Here’s the breakdown on what it means: 📜 The Basics: SB 707 requires clothing and textile producers to establish recycling and recovery programs for their products. This means brands will be held accountable for the end-of-life of their products, from collection to recycling, keeping more textiles out of landfills. 🌍 Why It Matters: With over 11 million tons of textile waste ending up in U.S. landfills every year, the environmental impact is massive. This new law pushes brands to take responsibility and promotes a circular economy, a huge win for sustainability. 💡 Opportunities for Brands: For early-stage companies and emerging brands, SB 707 offers a chance to lead in sustainability from the ground up. Implementing sustainable practices not only aligns with consumer demand but also positions brands for long-term impact and growth in a more regulated market. #SustainableFashion #SB707 #CircularEconomy #COStudios #EmergingIndustries #FashionInnovation

🌍 EU's Extended Producer Responsibility for Textiles Hey, everyone! I've been reading up about the EU's EPR for textiles initiative, and thought I'd surface to share what I've discovered. After sifting through reports, proposal texts, and analyses, here's what I've learned about EU's planned actions: 🌿 Eco-design requirements for textiles to make them repairable and recyclable 🔖 Introducing a Digital Product Passport for all textile products 🚮 Develop separate collection systems for textile waste 🚫 Restrict the export of textile waste from EU to third countries ♻ Incentivise the Reuse and Recycle business sectors 🌐 Harmonise EPR rules for textiles in all Member States 🔆 Raise consumer awareness about impacts of textile waste The more I delve into this, the more I find myself curious to see it unfurl into reality. Is the fashion industry truly ready for these changes? Will this catalyse innovation or present unexpected hurdles? And let's be real - how many cups of coffee will it take to fully grasp all the implications? ☕️ I've attached the official factsheet for those hungry for more details. But I'm eager to know your take on this. How do you see this initiative shaping our industry landscape? #EUSustainability #ExtendedProducerResponsibility #GreenFuture #EUGreenDeal #CircularEconomy #ClimateAction #Sustainable

FTA officially launched the Canadian Circular Textiles Consortium (CCTC) last September with the goal of applying the principles of circular economy as a means of reducing the textile and apparel industry’s impact on people and the planet. The CCTC takes a collaborative approach by working with stakeholders across the textile and end-of-use value chain (strategic, knowledge, observing, and collaborating partners). Following our Q1 partner meeting we thought we would share some exciting updates from our partners: ♻️ We have welcomed four new members: SicSox Circular Ltd., @Canopy, @Public Services and Procurement Canada | Services publics et Approvisionnement Canada, and @Collective Détour! This brings our stakeholder network to over 100 stakeholders! ♻️ CCTC Partner Marianne-Coquelicot Mercier (CHROMA consulting) is running a 2-day (French language) workshop in collaboration with CSMO Textile on the topic of Circular Economy in the Textile Industry. You can learn more and signup here – https://lnkd.in/gUHA5cEy ♻️ CCTC Partner Environment and Climate Change Canada shared their newly announced Plastics Registry wherein producers of plastics will have to report the quantities of plastic (which includes textiles such as polyester) placed on the Canadian market on an annual basis. You can find more information on the registry here – https://lnkd.in/dFZqxut9 ♻️ Through our four key approaches we have established 8 projects: • Policy & Legislation - Futures Framework, Textile Design Guidelines • Education - Youth Education School Program, Circular Marketing Campaign, Key Terms Glossary • Landscape Research & Data - Opportunities Assessment, Data Library • Applied Research & Pilots - Alternative End of Life Pathways (beyond T2T) In Q2, we’re looking forward to introducing our Learning Series featuring experts both internally and externally for CCTC members, launching our Pilot Pitch initiative, and releasing our official CCTC Action Plan. Last June, the European Commission published the Transition Pathway for the Textiles Ecosystem, a roadmap guiding the textile industry towards a green, circular economy. As the pathway actively progresses, deep integration into global value chains is crucial for a sustainable EU textile landscape. According to a survey report by the European Commission, one of the shared concerns is securing reliable global partnerships. It is especially true for the cleanroom sector since finding the right partner with industrial knowledge and a circular business model is essential for a better future. As a trusted brand in the global textile value chains, we advocate for a global cultural change, starting with AFC's service-oriented mindset. #circulareconomy #textilewaste #textileecosystem #AFC Survey cited: compilation stakeholder survey results Image credit: Asiatic Fiber Corporation (AFC)

California’s new Responsible Textile Recovery Act of 2024 (SB 707) is set to reshape sustainability standards in business. What does it mean? SB 707 enforces stricter regulations on packaging, encourages reusable materials, and rewards businesses that prioritize eco-friendly practices. 🌱 It’s a major move toward cutting waste and creating a more sustainable future. Why should businesses care? • Innovation Driver: This law is a call to rethink packaging, materials, and product designs to align with new sustainability standards. 💡 • Market Opportunities: Early adopters can gain a competitive edge with eco-conscious consumers. 🛍️ • Challenges Ahead: Transitioning will come with costs and supply chain changes, but businesses that adapt early will see long-term benefits. 📈 #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Innovation #CaliforniaLaw #COStudios #fashionindustry
