What is a Nationaly Determined Contributions NDCs? How is it related to the Paris Agreement? The Paris Agreement empowers countrys to limit the climate to within a global average temperature increase to as close to 1.5 deg as possible .." (to pre industrial measurement. "...to strengthen climate resistance and ensure financial flows are consistent with these goals." The Paris Agreement laid the foundation for the countries to collaborate together to build a better world. NDC's communicate efforts of each country. Each country puts forth their most ambitions contributions that their national circumstances allow, they include targets policies and measure looking at finance, technology, capacity building to enable ambitious climate options. Countries communicate new or updated NDCs every 5 years, starting in 2020. In 2018 guidance was provided to provide #clarity #transparancy #understanding of NDCs, goal is to be ambitious towards reaching the objectives of the Paris Agreement. Opening Panel on #EarthInformationDay2024 - #IPCC chair Jim Skea states, that #Earthobservations underpins the regional warning system and that EA are the core of IPCC outcomes. #WMO Gen.Secr. Celeste Santo confirmed that "2024 is on track and hits the 1.5 goal. In January 23rd we have hit 1.54 degree of global temp. rise. She states that we are coming close to fail #ParisAgreement, there is an urgent need in tracking constantly our climate emissions and to prioritise effective climate policy and ensure climate warnings and risk communication. #UNFCCC director Cecilia Kinuthia thanks the diverse experts and knowledge and "bridging the observational gaps and science policy decisions" because: "earth observations are the back bone of our science 4 policy and only our inclusive engagement ensures this comprehensive data collection" Good climate data leads to betterinformed decisions and a faster resilience for threads of climate crisis.

The Global North is responsible for 92% of global emissions. But the Global South is suffering the consequences. To adapt sustainably to the climate crisis, we need immediate action from those who are most responsible. The latest UN NDC Synthesis Report sheds light on the challenges and advancements in global climate action. By 2030, current national climate plans are estimated to reduce emissions by only 5.9% from 2019 levels, falling short of necessary reductions. However, there are also important trends to build on. Countries are increasingly embracing comprehensive climate strategies, focusing on methane reduction, nature-based solutions, and agricultural transformation. Encouraging trends include enhanced institutional frameworks, robust domestic climate coordination arrangements, and a rise in ocean protection measures integration. Differences in climate policies across countries can have far-reaching impacts, creating both positive and negative spillovers on a global scale. The OECD Summary report prepared for the #ClimateClub, launched at #COP29, highlights 3 main areas where these international spillovers become visible: ➡️ The geographical distribution and total level of emissions (carbon leakage). ➡️ Differential impacts on economic outcomes across countries, through compliance costs for businesses leading to effects on the broader macroeconomy. ➡️Differential impacts on technology costs and technology diffusion.
