I have a question that I often get asked and would appreciate your experience in your field. How important do feel it is to have experience in the trades that you inspect? my number one priority is to be able to find solutions on the job site to keep the project moving. For example I had 24yrs in the construction industry before becoming an inspector. should all inspector be required to have a minimum amount of experience before qualifying for there job? Or is passing a test just as important?

I have a few questions for the inspection world out there. Let me start off by saying for the last 10-12 years I have been on the third party (client representative) side of new construction with various clients. Dealing very little with pipeline activities. that being said I see a lot of pipeline inspection company's hiring all the time. In their description they usually say you have to have experience with one of the company's they are working for. My question is if you don't have that clients training or whatever it is you have to have, how does one get said training? I guess mainly for new and upcoming inspectors this seems hard. If I ever decided to get into the pipeline side how hard would it be? How hard is it to get your foot in the door? People I've talked to say you basically have to start over like you are a new inspector again and work your way up. Let me know your thoughts.
