“Knock Knock” Who's there? “ODIS” ODIS who? “ODIS (oh-dis) is going to be fun to pick up in 1000 feet of water!” Unforeseen costs during decommissioning can cause unwanted scope creep or worse, budget bust to the already costly pure money burn of ARO/"Boomerang” decommissioning. What does a work class ROV spread cost when it wasn’t planned, budgeted or scheduled in the original scope of work? Is one even available? What kind of rigging is needed to lift that? Can I get it now? Will the debris fall apart during the lift? The heavy lifting is done, and we are at the finish line with the final site clearance. Will we get this project done and clear the lease or is this 20-year-old shack going to push us into next year? These are just some of the questions that used to keep me up at night working for an O&G Operator in the GOM and contributed to my desire to gain better information during annual inspections.

How offshore workers are transferred from platform to vessel using a crane bucket?🧐 Crew transfer is a common phenomenon in offshore marine activities, particularly at oil rigs and gas production sites and at offshore installations, construction or maintenance works. For decades, helicopters have conducted air transfers while walking, rope swing, crew boats, and cranes have been the most used methods for sea transfers during both emergency situations and routine duty. Cranes transfers using a personnel transfer basket accounts for a large percentage of these transfers. Comment please! 📌Knowledge not shared is knowledge lost!

Underwater welding is a specialized and challenging profession that requires a unique set of skills and expertise. This type of welding involves carrying out welding tasks in an underwater environment, typically in the construction or repair of structures such as offshore oil platforms, ships, pipelines, and dams. One of the main challenges of underwater welding is the harsh conditions in which the work is carried out. Divers must contend with limited visibility, strong currents, varying water temperatures, and the risk of marine life encounters. In addition, the pressure at depth can be immense and requires specialized equipment to ensure the safety and efficiency of the welding process. There are two main types of underwater welding: wet welding and dry welding. Wet welding involves carrying out the welding task directly in the water, while dry welding involves creating a sealed environment around the welding area to prevent water from entering. Both methods have their own advantages and limitations, depending on the specific requirements of the project. Underwater welders must undergo rigorous training and certification to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their job safely and effectively. They must be proficient in both welding techniques and diving procedures, as well as have a thorough understanding of underwater construction principles. Despite the challenges, underwater welding plays a crucial role in maintaining and repairing underwater structures that are vital to industries such as oil and gas, shipping, and infrastructure development. The work of underwater welders helps ensure the integrity and longevity of these structures, ultimately contributing to the safety and efficiency of various industries. In conclusion, underwater welding is a demanding yet rewarding profession that requires a high level of skill, expertise, and dedication. The work of underwater welders is essential for ensuring the integrity and reliability of underwater structures, making it a vital component of various industries around the world. #welding #inspection #offshore #oilandgas

Each lift requires a combination of technical skill, precision, and teamwork. At every jobsite, like this one installing a fibreglass pool, our team works together to make sure everything goes to plan. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at a typical job: 1️⃣The crane operator needs a strong knowledge of the crane's capabilities, weight limits, and boom reach. 2️⃣Rigging the equipment correctly keeps it balanced while it’s being lifted. Our team understands weight distribution and tension points — physics and math for the win! 🤓 3️⃣There’s a lot of communication between the crane operator, riggers, and ground crew. They work together to navigate tight spaces, obstacles, or specific placement challenges on the job site. 4️⃣Site preparation means the job is ready before we start the lift. In this case, making sure the hole is the right dimensions, there is a stable base, the ground is ready for heavy equipment, and there are no obstacles. 5️⃣We follow safety rules to avoid accidents and ensure the job goes smoothly. Moving heavy equipment takes a well-coordinated, skilled team. 🏁𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗼 on our newly converted 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲, 𝙎𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙥𝙞𝙥𝙚𝙧, following successful sea trials off Johor, Malaysia. Crew are now mobilising the flat-bottomed barge for its first commercial project which kicks off next month. It caps an intense 18-months, during which the vessel was transformed from idle barge to Allseas’ gold pipelay standard. A team of 25 engineers and 50 crew, supported by some 300 subcontractors participated in the upgrade design and engineering process to modify 𝙎𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙥𝙞𝙥𝙚𝙧 for a state-of-the-art S-lay spread. It’s the first vessel in the Allseas fleet fitted with an 𝗶𝗻-𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 – designed to maximise safety and efficiency when operating its anchor mooring spreads in shallow waters. Daniel Marón Blanco, Senior Naval Architect explains “The system replaces the old manual set-up where multiple operators control winches individually with joysticks. Now, a central console serves as the interface for the 10 winches. Enter a setpoint and the software does the rest. It speeds up positioning operations and eliminates operator errors.” ⚓️The overhaul included structural strengthening in certain areas, most notably upgrading the original stinger with a new design that allows us to continue laying pipe in extremer sea states. The updated firing line includes the latest version of our 𝙋𝙝𝙤𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙭 automated welding equipment, and will include our phased array ultrasonic testing technology, 𝘿𝙤𝙡𝙥𝙝𝙞𝙣, and automated field joint sheet wrapping machine. All examples of what Allseas is doing to develop a 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗿, 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄. During pipelay trials, crew load-tested the A&R system and tensioners, followed by integrated tests: welding a string of pipe, performing a few pipe pulls and studying how the positioning system behaved together with the firing line and pipe string interface. 👉Read more about 𝙎𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙥𝙞𝙥𝙚𝙧: https://lnkd.in/e57W5Ejr 🔗Looking for a new challenge in offshore technology?
