Last week, I rounded up my 6 months internship at Aveon Offshore Limited 🥰 Here are six life changing lessons I learned that would be of value to you too: 1. From Intern to Protégé: Insights and Hacks for Success ✨ After wrapping up a rewarding six-month internship at PETRONAS Gas Bhd, I’ve gained valuable insights and hands-on experience that I believe will benefit future interns. 1. Don’t underestimate your drive! Being driven isn’t just about staying busy; it’s about having the energy, curiosity, and determination to get things done! It’s about continually seeking improvement and making a positive impact in everything we do. For example, sharing your ideas in meetings, meeting deadlines, and communicating clearly all demonstrate this drive. I’ll always remember when my manager told me, ‘I thought genz is this and that, but you proved me wrong’. Our drive is what sets us apart and makes a real difference. So, let’s embrace this drive with confidence and make every effort count! 2. No Question is Stupid: Embrace the Power of Inquiry Asking questions is a powerful tool for learning and is always worthwhile. During my first week as an intern, I aimed to understand every abbreviation, acronym, and piece of jargon that was new to me. The challenge felt daunting at first, and I was intimidated by the fear of asking 'stupid' questions. However, I chose not to let confusion holds me back. Instead, I embraced my curiosity and bravely asked questions. Here’s my only tip: Don’t Settle for Basic Answers—Seek Out the Experts. Don’t be afraid to approach those with deeper knowledge. When I reached out to my manager for guidance, I discovered a wealth of knowledge that transformed my experience. Remember, your questions are the gateway to incredible growth and unexpected opportunities. Embrace them with enthusiasm and watch as your understanding expands beyond your imagination! 3. Be Proactive: Offer Yourself Before Being Offered / Embrace the ‘Ringan Tulang’ Spirit As an intern, there will be quiet days when you might feel tempted to scroll through social media. But resist that urge! Instead, make sure you stay visible and keep yourself on your superior’s radar. I took the initiative “Offer Yourself Before Being Offered” by asking my superiors, “Are there any tasks I can help with?” “Can I join any upcoming meetings?” “Is there any admin work I can assist with?” “Can you teach me how CCS functions?” By showing that you’re eager and ready to contribute, you’ll prove your ✨value✨. These proactive steps will be what you truly cherish long after your internship ends. Embrace every opportunity to learn and contribute and watch how it transforms your experience and career prospects. In conclusion, what we’re doing today is the result of what we did in the past.
