🛰️ Have you ever come across smearing like this in Google or Apple maps and wondered why it happens? 🛰️ Ortho-rectified imagery is designed to give us a true-to-scale view of the Earth's surface, correcting distortions caused by terrain. But sometimes, you might notice smearing or blurring in these images. One common reason for this is elevation changes. When there’s a significant change in elevation, the pixels in the imagery may struggle to accurately represent the terrain. This can lead to smearing or blurring, as the software tries to reconcile the varying heights with the flat, 2D representation. At OGL, we understand how crucial accuracy is for your projects. We’re continually refining our processes to minimize these issues and provide you with the most reliable imagery possible. Operators can now view 3D models in a real-world environment at a true-life scale, in the context of existing surroundings. On the Trimble Earthworks Grade Control Platform display, the model is overlaid onto existing ground giving the operator a better understanding of the work that needs to be done. Visibility of the bucket gives operators better situational awareness to be able to keep surrounding people and objects safer. Users can easily understand 3D models, cut/fill information, slope data and other bench points and reference points in context, without the need to interpret complex 2D plans or stakes. #augmentedreality #mixedreality #AR #construction #constructiontech

A nice, quick demo video on how Trimble SiteVision and Trimble Connect could be used for locating existing utility lines to help avoid underground utility strikes on a construction site. Underground utility strikes are a dangerous and costly events. Almost all line strikes are expensive, and many of incidents that damage gas or electric lines can be extremely dangerous for everyone in the area. Improve construction firm business outcomes - ensure safety, keep projects on track and within budget - avoid costly utility line strikes by using the Crystal Ball. Erm... I meant Trimble SiteVision and Trimble Connect. #Trimble #Geospatial #SiteVision #TrimbleConnect
Using 💡 Emerging Technology and 🎮 Gamification to transforming the way the world works. 🌳 A passion for our planet and protecting our ecosystems 🌵
Locate your underground utilities the easy way with SiteVision! Coming from a world of 3D modeling, I found 2D PDFs so outdated. Fortunately, SiteVision makes it easy to place them in the Augmented reality world. For this project, it was crucial to locate the existing utilities accurately, as they wereexpected to be used by the neighbor. Instead of blindly searching with a radio detector, I used SiteVision to guide me to the right place, narrowing my search and pinpointing the exact location. The result? I saved a significant amount of time on site! 🥳 ~~~~~~ #trimble Trimble Geospatial #sitevision #augmentedreality Radiodetection Ltd #utilities #undergroundutility ~~~~~~~

Deep Dive, No Wetsuit Required: Gaussian Splats Explore Kristiansand's Underground 🕳️🐇 I recently joined forces with Ola Dahl, an civil engineer at Kristiansand kommune (municipality), to explore how Gaussian Splats – a 3D modeling technique that rapidly creates accurate 3D representations from images – can be used to map our city's underground infrastructure. Inspecting these spaces is hazardous, involving confined spaces, potential exposure to toxic gases and lack of oxygen. Current mapping methods are often time-consuming and expensive. So, we decided to test if lowering a camera and using Gaussian Splats to generate a 3D representation could be a safer and more efficient solution. To measure the potential, we focused on two key criteria: 1. Automatic rescaling: ✅ The Gaussian Splat model was automatically calibrated using 3D-printed markers on a metal scale stick, with a total cost below $10. 2. Accurate measurements (+-1 cm): ✅ Even several meters below the surface, we achieved precise measurements of all the pipes, proving its accuracy even deep within the system and far away from the calibration tool. This promises to revolutionize enclosed space inspections! It's more efficient, cheaper, and visually superior to other approaches. A 360 camera would give an even better result. To be continued. Huge thanks to Kristiansand municipality for this forward-thinking collaboration. Note: The AR version is not in scale. #GaussianSplatting #Infrastructure #Innovation #Kristiansand #underground #sewer #GetTheFutureYouWant #Capgemini #3DGS #3Dscanning #AR #ValueThroughVisualization

Lennon Bedford showing how easy it is to extract 3D string lines, TIN and contour lines from #BLK360 data with the #Cylone3DR virtual surveyor tool! 👏 👏 👏 #realitycapture #engineerng #surveying #leicageosystems #newzealand #teamglobalsurvey
Road Intersection topographical surveys are a great application for 3D laser scanning. Not only does the technology remove the need for workers to risk entering the live traffic lanes, you leave site with confidence that you haven't missed any crucial detail that will require a repeat visit. This point cloud was captured with the Leica Geosystems part of Hexagon #BLK360 from the safety of the footpath - it's amazing what this little device can do. The 3D string lines, TIN and contour lines, which are normally still a requirement from civil designers, have been extracted using the Virtual Surveyor tool in #Cyclone3DR. These features can be sent to CAD with the click of a button, preserving feature code and layer information. #realitycapture #HealthAndSafety #whenithastoberight Global Survey New Zealand
