It was a joyous weekend hearing about the passing of #SB1183! Thank you, Senator Melissa Hurtado, for all your work on #SB1183! The importance of SB 1183 for nurses cannot be overstated, especially when it comes to nursing school admission. This bill aims to streamline the admission process, making it more accessible for aspiring nurses. Additionally, it provides financial assistance and resources to help students succeed in their #education and #training. Existing law authorizes a community college registered nursing program that determines that the number of applicants to the program exceeds its capacity to admit students using a multicriteria screening process, a random selection process, or a blended combination of random selection and a multicriteria screening process, as specified. This bill would add living in a medically underserved area or population, as designated by the federal Health Resources and Services Administration, to the list of life experiences or special circumstances specified for consideration in a multicriteria screening process. The bill would explicitly reference the various languages of the African continent as languages that may be identified by the chancellor as high-frequency languages. The bill would extend the operation of these provisions relating to admission to community college registered nursing programs until January 1, 2030. #nursing #policy #equity #CCBNA #NBNA

National Nurses Day, Teacher Appreciation Week and National Teachers Day have been held in May since the early 1980s. How can we honor these professionals? Advocate for them-if you have decision-making authority. Give them more money and resources to decrease their workload demands. Support legislation to improve their work conditions. Nearly 76% of nurses said they experienced burnout in 2023. Teaching is considered one of the most draining jobs. This week, tell a nurse and/or teacher "Thank you for your service". This is usually a message we share with our military-I hear people share this with my husband, a retired US Marine, and we should also honor our nurses and teachers in this way. Although the service is different, it's vital for all of use as nurses comprise the largest group of healthcare professionals: There are more than 4 million registered nurses in the United States alone. As of 2024, there are an estimated 4,007,908 teachers in the United States, including both public and private school teachers (per AI). Nurses play a crucial role in health promotion, disease prevention, and delivering primary and community care, greatly enhancing the overall health system. Teachers make a lasting impression on students' futures: Research shows that a strong teacher-student relationship can significantly enhance a student's academic success. Nurses are highly trusted: For nearly two decades, nurses have topped the Gallup poll as the most trusted professionals in the United States. This high level of trust reflects the significant impact nurses have on patient care and the deep respect they earn from the public for their ethical standards and honesty. These facts celebrate the vital roles that nurses and teachers play in our community for their service and dedication to help others. #nurse #nursingexcellence #nursingeducation #happyteacherappreciation #happynursesweek #burnout #nextgeneration https://lnkd.in/eGQtr-JN

As National Nurses Week comes to a close, we want to encourage you to celebrate yourselves and your students. They will be nurses soon, and we need them! Encourage your students, instill a growth mindset in them, and help them become resilient. To successfully transition to practice, it is our duty as educators to develop and promote the strategies they need in nursing school and beyond. The most important thing we can do is be the change we want to see in our students. In other words, we should role model the behavior we want them to adopt. Lead by example: → Model the qualities of a positive role model in your interactions with students, colleagues, and patients. → Share personal experiences and stories demonstrating professionalism, compassion, and excellence in patient care. → Provide feedback and guidance to students to help them develop their skills and achieve their full potential.
