The course provided a comprehensive understanding of corrosion, its financial and environmental impacts, and the critical role of good engineering design in controlling it. I explored various types of corrosion, their causes, and the electrochemical processes underlying corrosion reactions. Additionally, I gained insights into oilfield corrosion phenomena, including sweet/sour and seawater corrosion, along with strategies for minimizing facility degradation. Key topics included corrosion prediction, inhibition, and management, essential for maintaining the integrity of oil and gas infrastructure. #CorrosionScience #OilAndGas #Engineering #ProfessionalDevelopment

Dear Network, According to NACE International IMPACT, the global cost of corrosion is estimated to be US$2.5 trillion, equivalent to 3.4% of the global GDP (2013). As a process engineering student, this alarming statistic motivated me to take the course "Protecting the World: Introducing Corrosion Science and Engineering" to better understand the dangerous effects of corrosion and how to mitigate its impact. Over the last four weeks, I have gained a deeper appreciation of the financial and environmental consequences of corrosion, learned about the electrochemical basis of corrosion reactions, and explored essential industrial design strategies to control it. I also developed practical skills in cathodic protection systems, including performing calculations and addressing real-world challenges in their application. In the final part of the course, I focused on the oil and gas industry, where corrosion is a significant concern. I studied key approaches to manage corrosion in extraction processes and gained insights that will help me contribute to reducing these costly impacts in the future. This course has been an invaluable learning experience, and I look forward to applying the knowledge I've gained in my journey as a process engineer. #CorrosionScience #Engineering #ProcessEngineering #Sustainability #CathodicProtection #OilAndGas #ProfessionalDevelopment #Coursera #NACE #LifelongLearning#process#oil#gas#UniversityofManchester

Tecknical training books : I would like to suggest Kees Kuiken training books Diesel Engines I ,II & III ( Marine Engineer from 1963 Maritime institute at Terschelling The Netherlands ); in the 1995 he founded the EUROPEAN TRAINING CENTER FOR MACHINE TECHNOLOGY , ETM. In the 2000 estabilisched Target Global Energy training for Diesel Engines and Gas Engines. Furthermore in the 2016 he wrote a new book/s for GAS and DUAL Fuel engines for ship propulsion, power plants and cogeneration. I learn a lot about all above listed items, really interesting specially about new materials used for them.
