 Regeneration This approach transcends sustainability by focusing on actively restoring and revitalizing our environment and communities. One inspiring example comes from Portugal: the Silveira Tech project, a pioneering initiative that's bringing life back to two ancient villages in the Serra da Lousã region. Regenerative villages go beyond traditional sustainability. They function as self-sustaining ecosystems, where the goal is not just to minimize environmental harm, but to actively regenerate and heal the land. Through practices rooted in circular economy principles, these villages reduce waste and creatively repurpose resources. Silveira Tech demonstrates how technology and nature can coexist harmoniously, offering a vision of future living: "Our villages are designed to create a futuristic experience in symbiosis with nature, offering a balanced life between work and personal reconnection with nature and community." The result? Living spaces that aren't just neutral in their environmental impact but carbon-positive, contributing to the health of the planet while nurturing the people who live there. On my last day before summer vacation I joined Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Sweden, together with industry experts and practitioners exchanging ideas and experiences on how innovation in building technology can provide economically efficient solutions and simultaneously contribute to conserving increasingly scarce energy and water resources 🏘️ Mr Emmanuel Normant presented the innovative technology solutions of Saint-Gobain including low carbon products, helping to optimize energy usage and simultaneously enhancing building performance. 👏 What better reason for gathering than a sustainability event, where everyone would discuss solutions and celebrate green partnerships - and Nature is invited!    On September 16, 2024, one such event took place, hosting an array of participants who strive to pioneer sustainable business transformations and make a real difference in daily/workplace life via employee empowerment and engagement. It marked the beginning of the annual BNP Paribas Germany Sustainability Week - a combination of central online events and on-site participation activities in the wake of the European Sustainability Week. Towards a Greener Tomorrow: Jalotus Leads Finland’s Sustainable Transformation ♻🌱 Jalotus, located in the Helsinki Ring of Industry, has launched a transition movement that brings together sustainability advocates from across Finland. Their activities are diverse, ranging from a community farm and the Remake upcycling sewing studio to researchers and innovators. "For example, specialists from Origin by Ocean built a pilot breeding tank for the eco-friendly sea algae, bladderwrack, at the Jalotus facilities, and we’ve been involved in several biochar-related projects. We’re eager to help companies make their existing products even more eco-friendly," says Anna Evilä, who founded Jalotus in 2019. "Networking is crucial to spreading successful experiments globally and sharing the lessons learned," she add. Jalotus’ unique work has also gained international recognition. They have been selected to represent Finland in the #TransitionNetwork and has been named Finland's national transition hub – a center that supports the establishment and operation of similar sustainable living movements. EVES ENERGY custom-made #algae #bricks for #decarbonization #offset #offtake Algae bricks exhibit a compressive strength of >12 MPa and are designed to be carbon-neutral, with the potential for carbon negativity through their production process, which emits only 10% of the CO2 associated with traditional concrete manufacturing. They are expected to last as long as traditional bricks, often exceeding 100 years of durability. Cost estimates for algae bricks aim to be comparable to traditional bricks, which typically range from $1.50 to $3.00 per unit. Both types of bricks offer similar thermal performance, with thermal conductivity values around 0.5 W/m·K, and meet relevant certification standards such as ASTM guidelines, positioning algae bricks as a more #sustainable option in construction that could significantly lower the #carbon footprint of building projects.
