We recently attended the South African Museum Association's 88th Conference at the South African Armour Tempe Military Base in Bloemfontein. This year’s theme was ‘Digital Revolution: South African Museums and the Fourth Industrial Revolution – Foregrounding Relevance and Securing the Future of Museums.’ Our Digital Scholarship and Data Curation Manager, Niklas Zimmer, shared insights on digitisation with his presentation, “Transforming South African Museums in the 21st Century: A Case Study Approach from FCTEC.” He also had the privilege of being invited to the panel discussion on "Challenging conversations of museum restitution, the return of art and the role of digitisation." The conference featured diverse presentations and discussions on leveraging digital technologies to ensure museums remain relevant and future-proof. The futuristic structure is illuminated according to a simple principle. Four in-ground luminaires supply the light for the large inclined area, and the side parts of the building are illuminated with floodlights from a mounting height of 10 m, cautiously underlining the character-shaping form elements of the building.
