TotalEnergies to fight to explore for gas and oil TotalEnergies and the government are opposing a bid by environmental groups to overturn the decision to grant TotalEnergies permission to drill for oil and gas offshore. The environmental groups argue that the decision neglected socioeconomic and climate change impacts and lacked proper evaluation of oil spill contingency plans. TotalEnergies, with British multinational Shell and national oil company PetroSA, plans exploratory drilling off South Africa's southwest coast. The environmental groups aim to protect coastal resources and livelihoods, while TotalEnergies defends its interests. "Inadequate laws and insufficient compliance and enforcement are resulting in oil and gas companies failing to clean up infrastructure from the ocean." This week, six leading nature and ocean conservation organisations from across Australia, including Greenpeace Australia Pacific, released a scathing Statement calling out the NOPSEMA over its failure to ensure offshore oil and gas companies clean up disused oil and gas infrastructure from the ocean. Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/g-YjPhks The Statement and accompanying case study report, “The failing regulation of the offshore oil and gas industry clean up in Australia: Statement of Concern”, was launched in Canberra on Tuesday alongside the Maritime Union of Australia - and presents five case studies from offshore waters adjacent to Victoria, Western Australia and the Northern Territory that highlight the systematic nature of ocean clean up avoidance by fossil fuel companies including ExxonMobil, Woodside and Santos.

IN order to safeguard the integrity of Guyana’s burgeoning oil-and-gas sector, the government has intensified its efforts to combat unethical practices such as “rent-a-citizen” and “fronting”. The sector, which is monitored by the Ministry of Natural Resources, through the Local Content Secretariat (LCS), has intensified its tracking for these unethical practices, which, it said, is often used in joint ventures, involve foreign companies exploiting local individuals or entities as mere facades to meet local content requirements, while the true control and benefits remain overseas. https://lnkd.in/eH3Q4PrR

After responding to the first two consultation papers for the Maritime Emissions Reduction National Action Plan (#MERNAP) we were concerned that not enough is being done or thought about to help the Australian #maritimeindustry negotiate the shoals and eddies of the #energytransition. So we are launching the Maritime Emissions Reduction Coalition (MERC) to focus on accelerating the reduction of green house gas (GHG) emissions in Australia's maritime industry. MERC will help its members reduce maritime emissions by: • Advocating with Government for industry needs, • Researching the best ways forward for maritime operators, • Connecting suppliers with early adopter customers, • Improving Australia's sovereign capacity to deliver maritime electrification, and • Coordinating collaborative projects across the industry. #JoinUs, and make a difference today.

Corporate Rock Stars In The House U2 in residence at the MSG Sphere in Las Vegas it was not*, but, if you are involved with LNG, are in Manila, Philippines and you get the chance to experience the incredible live performance of Shell's Annual LNG Outlook at the Grand Hyatt Manila by LNG Corporate Rock Stars Mehdi Chennoufi and Ajay Shah, you take it! I was reminded of Workday's award-winning advertising campaign the "Rock Star" which poked fun at the corporate world's overuse of the term "rock star", but as Donatella Versace once remarked, "the suit does not represent the businessman anymore. Nor does the loud shirt represent the rock star. The same man can now wear both.” In this case, the term "rock star" for these besuited experts is well justified! Mehdi Chennoufi and Ajay Shah explained that Southeast Asia is emerging as a major LNG import region with Vietnam and the Philippines having started to import LNG to backfill declining domestic gas production. In the case of the Philippines, they showed that it has the potential to become a 10 MTPA market. When asked what government and regulators should do to make that a reality, they explained that LNG is not like oil and that the nature of the LNG industry requires all developing countries seeking to utilize LNG for long-term energy security to provide credit-worthy guarantees to enable cost-effective predictable supply, otherwise, they will be at the mercy of the spot market. *It has been pointed out to me that it was also NOT Meatloaf, KISS, Black Sabbath, Joan Jett, Billy Idol, Gary Clark Jr., or even Coldplay or Taylor Swift, to emphasize the point and relate to a wider range of generations than just Generation X! https://lnkd.in/gt3AYsuq #lovethephilippines #batangas #philippines #fsru #energysecurity #decarbonization #lngindustry #climatecrisis #energytransition #lng #FirstGenCorporation #sustainability #regenerative #shell
