Shalom- SCCRR is increasingly gaining recognition on both local and international fronts. Under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Patrick Devine, Shalom-SCCRR, Shalom has made a significant impact in the Horn of Africa, with far-reaching effects extending beyond the region to other parts of Africa and the global community. While the onset of conflict may be predictable, its resolution remains uncertain. The presence of instability necessitates proactive measures aimed at comprehensively understanding its underlying causes and devising strategic solutions. The work of creating new future-oriented narratives in fragile and conflict affected areas requires time, dedication, and persistence. Reos Partners's work in Afghanistan, Syria, Cyprus, Haiti, and currently in the Horn of Africa, teaches us the value of working with funding partners who understand that meaningful change requires making some bold funding choices. And yet, in the face of escalating levels of violent conflict around the world, there is a steady decline in funding for the work of building more peaceful futures. I am pleased to share with you my new piece, "In Search of a Middle East and North Africa Peace System," published recent Contemporary Review of the Middle East, the flagship journal of the Middle East Institute in New Delhi. https://lnkd.in/ebfA-RJq Many people ask why MENA is so violent. This article reverses the logic: why is the regional peace system, the institutions that should dampen conflict and hinder violence, so weak? The article shows that the MENA peace system is often uneven and unstable, with progress in one dimension coming at the expense of another. Understanding the gaps and inconsistencies within the MENA peace system can help devise a more realistic and feasible approach to conflict resolution rather than abstract and ultimately impractical ideals. #peace #gaza #israel #iraq #yemen #libya #syria.

🤝Join us for the next edition in the Fireside Peace Chats series, titled “Global Cycles of Conflict: The Armed Conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Abroad”. This edition takes place with a human rights defender from the Great Lakes region of Africa and current Shelter City Deventer guest. This speaker is a part of the Congolese organisation Centre for the Observation of Human Rights and Social Assistance or CODHAS, which advocates for human rights, peace, and an equitable community access to land and mineral resources. We will explore and discuss the cycle of conflict in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in addition to those of neighbouring countries in the Great Lakes region such as Burundi, Uganda, and Rwanda. Fireside Peace Chats are a joint initiative of Leiden University College The Hague (LUC), Knowledge Platform for Security and Rule of the Law (KPSRL), and The Hague Humanity Hub (THHH), with an aim to open a space where practice, research and policy in peacebuilding come together in an informal way, through experience of people on the ground. This initiative aims to contribute to a locally informed paradigm shift in liberal peacebuilding.
