Film Friday Today I had my first formal class in Cinematography at the Academy of Interactive Technology. Great vibes in class, the teacher was amazing, and we had good discussions. My prior experience in Photography and Film really comes in handy. But on the other hand, when we were confronted with upcoming assignments, that’s when the imposter syndrome kicked in. Studying something you’re passionate about formally is totally different from getting self-educated. Self-education is fun, and exciting, without any pressure and obligations. You learn for the sake of learning to gain new skills and practice. Studying something you’re passionate about formally takes away the freedom and joy, replaced with tension, pressure, and a bit of fear. Not everyone can fully utilize self-education and formal education isn’t suited for everybody either. I realized that I’m definitely on the spectrum of self-taught, without the pressure and urge to “do it”. I stand for self-education because to me it’s the best way of learning and practicing. All my role models are self-educated in film. James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino … My film recommendation for tonight: 1917 (Sam Mendes) The story of two young soldiers during WWI on a mission to deliver an important message to the frontline to inform the British that they run into a trap. The entire film is set as a one-take shot which is a phenomenal experience for the audience. It was mind-blowing when I watched it for the first time just because you don’t see any cuts. There are, but they are well hidden. Watching a one-shot movie is something everyone should experience because it makes you dive even more into the story. This film is acclaimed very well and won several awards such as the Academy Awards for Best Cinematography, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects. Wishing you a wonderful weekend 😊 Photo Credits: Markus Spiske: https://lnkd.in/g_K2SQDM #filmmaking #storytelling #passion #cinema #movie #self-education #formaleducation #uni

Ever wondered what makes a cinematic masterpiece? 🎥✨ It’s not just about the story or the actors—it’s the intricate dance between cinematography and editing that brings magic to the screen. The way light falls on a subject, how each frame is meticulously crafted, and how every cut is timed can evoke emotions words alone can’t. Think of the legendary single-take shots in movies like "Goodfellas" https://lnkd.in/gxnQx3PX or "Children of Men" with https://lnkd.in/gSTrc6fH It’s an orchestration of elements working flawlessly together to immerse you fully into another world. It’s why I believe strong collaboration between cinematographers and editors is essential for any filmmaker aiming for greatness. So next time you watch your favorite film, pay attention to those subtle details. What stands out? How does it make you feel? Let’s discuss masterpieces that have left a mark on you! #Filmmaking #Cinematography #EditingMagic

Golden Ratio The Golden ratio (1.618) is a mathematical principle used in cinematography to create visually harmonious and balanced compositions. By applying the Golden Ratio to framing, subject placement achieve aesthetic balance, directing attention to key elements and creating a sense of tension or calm. This technique enhances visual flow, depth, and narrative complexity, drawing the audience into the story. The Clearing window has become a key area of focus for those working in higher education marketing, recruitment and admissions. For those students seeking a place in Clearing because they didn’t achieve their expected grades, it’s likely they will be feeling stressed and experiencing a loss of confidence. The aim of your Clearing campaign should be to rebuild that confidence and reassure them that they have still have a fulfilling university experience ahead of them at your institution. Ultimately, this comes down to two elements of your campaign: responsiveness and storytelling. Which is exactly what we aimed for with our clearing campaign film for University of Suffolk https://lnkd.in/e8fSTAc4
Our narrative for @uniofsuffolk clearing campaign unfolded as a journey of self-discovery, emphasising that Clearing wasn't just about addressing uncertainties but an open door to unique advantages and tailored experiences at the University of Suffolk. The campaign showcased success stories of students who, through Clearing, found their ideal academic fit and went on to excel in their chosen paths. #videoproduction #video #videography #filmmaking #filmmaker #cinematography #videographer #film #cinematographer #photography #filmproduction #clearhead #director #filmmakers #videomaker #production #tvcampaign #videomarketing #setlife #videoshoot #marketing #videoediting #videoedits #filming #highereducationmarketing #educationmarketing #videos #cinema #cinematic #directorofphotography

This course “Learning Cinematography: 2 Working on Set” by Bill Dill was getting interesting, and I decided to take the second part of it. Even though they are things I'm already familiar with, it feels good to see a refresher course remind me about the order of film production.I had developed a system in my head that works pretty well when it comes to telling short stories, but Bill Dill just reminded me it best to keep things in the order of "best practices"Check it out: https://lnkd.in/eHUS6NXg #cinematography.

Famous Feature: Martin Scorsese Scorsese's iconic quote, "Cinema is a matter of what's in the frame and what's out," encapsulates his philosophy on visual storytelling. By focusing on the deliberate choices made within the frame, Scorsese guides videographers to consider not only what they capture but also what they intentionally leave out. This approach underscores the critical role of composition, framing, and negative space in creating compelling narratives and elevating the art of cinematography. https://buff.ly/4byF7Ee #FamousFeature
