Corporal Punishment: Redefining Discipline in South Africa's Schools The new Basic Education Laws Amendment (BELA) Act broadens the definition of corporal punishment, focusing on protecting children’s dignity. It bans both physical 🥊 and emotional abuse 😔, extending beyond just physical harm like hitting or smacking. Now, punishments that involve harsh initiation practices or actions that undermine a child’s dignity—such as humiliating tasks or mental abuse—are prohibited. This is a significant move towards creating safer, more respectful learning environments where all forms of degrading treatment are no longer tolerated. 💼📚 #EducationReform #ChildProtection #SouthAfrica #BELAAct #InclusiveEducation

As we approach #WorldHumanitarianDay, it’s crucial to remember that schools should be safe havens, not targets. Attacking schools, teachers, and students is a grave violation of International Humanitarian Law and an affront to our shared humanity. These acts not only disrupt education but also shatter communities and futures. Every child has the right to learn in a safe environment. Every teacher deserves to educate without fear. We must stand united against these atrocities and #ActForHumanity.

This group of students chose not to go quietly, and I am here for it. If you choose to recruit from a country with a volatile currency, you’d better be ready to own the risk. When I came to do a master’s degree in 2019, the conversion rate was 460 naira to £1. Today, it is 1,697 naira to £1. In 2019, £14,000 tuition was 6,440,000 naira; today, it is 23,758,000 naira. That’s almost quadruple the cost. International tuition for that same degree today is £18,000, which is 30,546,000 naira, almost fivefold compared to 2019. And that’s just for tuition alone. This is an example of how much international students shell out to study abroad. #internationalstudents #studyabroad #highereducation

Proud to share my learning journey on modern slavery. I recently completed the Modern Slavery course offered by The Open University, gaining a deeper understanding of slavery’s historical origins and its persistence in today’s world through human trafficking and forced labor. This course provided insights into: ✅ The international legal frameworks prohibiting slavery ✅ Various forms of modern slavery and trafficking ✅ Critical evaluation of policies aimed at eradicating exploitation Slavery isn’t just a problem of the past. From the history of Europeans enslaved by Barbary pirates to the human rights challenges we face today, slavery continues to take new forms. It’s up to us, as individuals and professionals, to raise awareness, advocate for justice, and push for stronger policies to end this injustice. This learning experience reinforces my commitment to building a more inclusive and fair society, where every individual enjoys freedom and dignity. Let’s work together to make a difference. #ModernSlavery #HumanRights #SocialJustice #AmaanullahBhatti #ContinuousLearning #LinkedInCommunity
