15 discovery questions for people who want to sound like human beings: (and set their deals up well too) 1. “So I’m sure you get a ton of folks reaching out to you trying to find time to chat – of all the calls you could take, what made you say ‘you know what, this is actually one I want to learn more about’ – like what prompted you to take the call?” 2. “What’s going on in the business that’s making this something you’re focused on?” 3. “How come you’re looking into this now? Like compared to all the other things you could be deciding to focus on? Like why this?” 4. “And so is there a specific target that you need to hit in order for this to be like ‘mission accomplished’?” 5. “Okay and I guess what’s stopping you from fixing this internally without buying something like this?” 6. “And how did this come to be an issue – like what changed that started to send the numbers down vs where you expected them to be?” 7. “And why is that, do you think?” 8. “Have you tried anything else to try and fix this?” 9. “And so outside of talking to us, how else are you thinking about solving this? Like what other stuff are you guys doing next year to try and get to that goal?” 10. “And so I guess you think that won’t be enough? Like if you only do that, you guys will end up falling short?” 11. “So I think I understand the context for the business. I’d be curious to hear just like for you, personally, is it as simple as hitting that target or is there anything else that’s really important to you like making sure it’s easy, doesn’t take a ton of time, etc?” 12. “I guess how will you pick between all the various options you’re considering? Like what criteria do you think are most important?” 13. “Who’s ultimately gonna have to sign off on this? Like at the end of the day will this have to go to maybe your CFO for a final green light?” 14. “What do you think your manager will say when you chat with them about this?” 15. “Okay it sounds like we’re at least on the right track here that this could potentially solve the problem – I guess, what concerns do you have? Like is there anything in the back of your mind that you think might be an issue we’ll need to deal with in order for you to potentially use this?” Lessons: - very natural language - make the questions user friendly/easy to answer - curious questions that make you & the prospect think about the relevant biz context Other key questions you’d add? This FORBES article lists the “11 Essential Soft Skills In 2024”. Out of the 11, 5 require understanding and refining of our mental models. How often do you hear, “That should be common sense, obvious, or logic”? If “that” was common sense, obvious or logic, we wouldn’t be saying it… Our mental models must be reviewed non-stop and adjusted when and where necessary non-stop. The following are soft skills from the list that are linked to our mental models : * Adaptability – involves adjusting our mental models in response to new information or changes in our environment. It requires cognitive flexibility and the willingness to modify or abandon outdated or ineffective ways of thinking. * Creativity – linked to the ability to think beyond existing mental models, allowing for new perspectives and innovative ideas. It involves breaking free from conventional thinking patterns and creating new frameworks for understanding and solving problems. * Critical Thinking – involves evaluating and adjusting mental models to make better decisions. It requires analyzing information, questioning assumptions, and modifying how we perceive and interpret the world we live in. * Emotional Intelligence – particularly the components of self-awareness and empathy, relies on understanding and refining mental models of oneself and others. This understanding helps in navigating social interactions and managing emotions effectively. * Problem Solving – is related to applying and sometimes revising our mental models to understand problems better and develop effective solutions. It involves recognizing patterns, drawing on previous knowledge, and adjusting mental frameworks to suit new situations. If as a Business Owner, you had to rate you and your senior team on the above, what would that look like? Our Business Owners continually ask themselves, "Can my senior team get me to where I want to be in the future?" What's your answer...? https://lnkd.in/dPeqb9Ah Surround yourself with the **right people***. Equip yourself with relevant **factually correct** knowledge. And remember, “The purpose of knowledge is action, not knowledge”. Challenge the status quo, starting with yours. #thealternativeboard #strategy #foresight #lifelonglearning #economy #future #business #innovation #leadership #BusinessOwners #businessadvice #TABBoards #tabboardssa

30 Days to a Systems Thinker: How to Rewire Your Brain and Revolutionize Your Work Have you ever felt like you're constantly putting out fires at work, only to see the same problems resurface? Or maybe you struggle to see the big picture and understand how different parts of a project or organization connect. If so, you're not alone. Many of us have been trained to think linearly, focusing on individual tasks rather than the underlying systems that produce those tasks. But what if there was a way to change that? What if you could rewire your brain to think in terms of systems, leading to more effective problem-solving, better decision-making, and greater innovation? https://lnkd.in/gB4bsqyC

What Slicing My Thumb Taught Me About Business. Over the weekend, a DIY project went wrong—I sliced my thumb and spent 4 hours in A&E. While waiting, it struck me how much this applies to business: 1. Preparation Matters: The right tools (or planning) prevent costly mistakes. 2. Triage is Critical: When things go wrong, prioritize fixing the biggest issues first. 3. Patience is Key: Complex problems need time to solve—don’t rush it. 4. Call in the Experts: Know when to escalate to specialists. 5. Learn & Improve: Use failures to refine processes and avoid repeat mistakes. Setbacks are inevitable, but growth comes from how we respond. What’s a lesson you’ve learned from unexpected challenges? #nhs #urgentcare #businesslessons #lessonsforbusiness #digitalbusiness
