When I moved from my hometown in U.P. to Visakhapatnam to join Vizag Steel, I knew I was in for a challenge. The language barrier, especially with Telugu, left me feeling like an outsider. On top of that, the different food habits , social customs, and workplace dynamics added to the complexity. At first, communication was tough, and I faced subtle resistance from colleagues. But instead of retreating, I embraced the challenge. I made an effort to learn Telugu, participated in local festivals such as Pongal, and showed genuine respect for their customs. Gradually, this helped me build trust and rapport with them and become a part of them. A turning point came when I started involving local workers in decision-making. Valuing their input helped me earn respect and trust. This experience taught me that overcoming cultural differences requires patience and empathy.
