They are neat features with loads of benefits - but they require careful planning and more complex structural considerations. From an engineering point of view, a green roof presents unique challenges in how to deal with its weight and drainage requirements. For that reason, it's the type of roof system that needs to be designed from the start of a project, as it would be very hard to retrofit it to an existing roof structure. Although living roofs aren't something we provide at Menno S. Martin, we are all for incorporating sustainable, environmentally-friendly solutions whenever possible!
