🚀 Important regulatory update: The EU AI Act published in the Official Journal! On July 12, 2024, the EU published Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, establishing the first comprehensive legal framework for AI. This regulation aims to promote innovation, protect fundamental rights, and ensure transparency and safety in AI development. Most provisions will become applicable on August 2, 2026, with additional guidelines expected to clarify requirements. A safe step to handle the Pandora's box has finally come to power. I'm excited to share that on July 12, 2024, the EU published Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, establishing the first comprehensive legal framework for AI. This landmark regulation is a significant step towards ensuring that AI systems respect fundamental rights, safety, and ethical principles while fostering innovation and transparency. 🔍 Key Objectives of the AI Act: 1️⃣ Promote Innovation: Foster a supportive environment for the development and adoption of cutting-edge AI solutions. 2️⃣ Protect Rights: Safeguard fundamental rights and individual privacy in AI development and usage. 3️⃣ Ensure Transparency and Safety: Set standards for transparency, safety, and reliability of AI applications. Timeline: The regulation enters into force on August 1, 2024, with most provisions becoming applicable on August 2, 2026. Everyone is waiting to see what the UK will do when it comes to AI regulation. It seems the UK is itself taking a "wait and see" approach, so far opting for a flexible, principles-based framework rather than comprehensive laws. This strategy has the benefit of allowing regulators to adapt to rapid AI advancements while balancing innovation with public safety. Recent moves, including the AI Opportunities Action Plan and Unit and an agreement with the US to collaborate on AI safety, suggest the UK is slowly working out how it wants to act and is monitoring the landscape before introducing more concrete measures. However, I do think eventually something will solidify into legislation. The question is when. Until then, its prudent for new AI businesses to take a gold-plated approach and ensure compliance with the EU AI Act because this is likely to be a template for the UK. #AIRegulation #Innovation #UKTech #ArtificialIntelligence #Compliance

The AI Act is published in the EU Official Journal today #AIA. This marks a significant step towards regulating Artificial Intelligence in the EU. The Act is set to enter into force on 2 August 2024, with a phased implementation plan. Prohibited AI will be banned starting from 2 February 2025, followed by the application to GPAI models from 2 August 2025. Finally, the Act is expected to apply (mostly) in full to all other aspects from 2 August 2026.
