We believe everyone should be able to be themselves at work - that’s why we’re proud to support “Mutual Pride” one of our Employee Network Groups. The group aims to raise visibility and awareness of the LGBTQ+ community, their experiences and history, and issues they may face. The group is open to all staff including homeworkers, advocates, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. The group aims to: • Connect LGBTQ+ NFU Mutual employees and allies to provide support, networking and social opportunities. • Promoting issues, awareness and celebrations. • Provide a connection point, signposting available resources and identifying where additional resources are required. • Give employees the confidence to engage with one another without any barriers. • Empower employees to bring their whole selves to work. We recently spoke with our Co-chairs Becky and Scott and asked them how Mutual Pride has made an impact at NFU Mutual. #NFUMutual #FinancialServices #MutualPride #GreatPlacetoWork #DiversityAndInclusion

Today is a day to stand together in support of the LGBTQ+ community and it has me reflecting on the power of the words we use. There have been papers written on how “homophobia,” “biphobia,” and “transphobia” are misnomers. It's true, these aren't true phobias but reflect societal conditioning and the fear of what is perceived as different. The reason I’m calling this out is my belief in the fact that words matter. They shape our perceptions and influence our actions. My concern is that using the term “phobia” legitimizes the feelings and behaviours associated with them. By acknowledging that these so-called “phobias” are not anxiety disorders but rather ingrained biases, we can start addressing the real issue: the need for education, empathy and allyship. What are ways you help educate others on ingrained biases?

October is LGBTQ+ History Month—a perfect time to bring attention to health equity and its importance. For far too long, the LGBTQ+ community has faced barriers to accessing quality healthcare, which can lead to disparities in chronic disease outcomes. As someone deeply committed to prevention and advocacy, I believe that true progress requires us to address these gaps head-on. This progress starts with creating inclusive health strategies that meet the unique needs of LGBTQ+ individuals. It's also important to note that health equity is about more than access—it’s about trust, respect, and cultural competency in care. For example, it's important that we respect trans peoples' pronouns and identities when providing them with healthcare, as negative experiences with healthcare professionals can deter patients from seeking help or receiving the appropriate care. This month, let's recommit to making sure all people, regardless of identity, have access to the tools and resources they need for a healthy future. #LGBTQHistoryMonth #Healthcare #HealthEquity
